The annual teams race was held last Sunday. It’s certainly a highlight of the social side of our clubs racing calendar. I think most of us can remember who we've been allocated to race with over the past few years. It’s a lot of fun, not to mention all the banter and sledging that was going on in transition while we watched the other team members come in and out of transition. Twenty-eight teams were in the timed Div 1 race and 18 in the non-timed Div 2 race.
Despite some rather ominous black clouds looming pre-race, we all stayed dry. No rain just a bit of wind.
A lot of work goes into organisation and team allocation for this event - so special thanks once again to Dave Leckenby for matching up the team members. I'm pretty sure it’s the teams race that's sent Dave prematurely grey. Where would the club be without him. Thanks Dave.
I think most of us enjoyed the run start along the beach down to the Jetty, then into the water to start a rather long, short course swim leg. It was more of a Run, Swim, Bike, Run race.
Wind on the bike leg was challenging for those with deep rims. I was also challenging for our new lap top as the same wind blew if off the timing table. Everyone raced safely on the road especially with the increased traffic around this time of the year. Perhaps Pim standing on the Hogbin Drive roundabout made us take extra caution. Thanks to all our duty volunteers, you all did a great job, especially Rowlo - it can be a confusing event for competitors and I'm sure your voice was hoarse from giving directions to everyone.
First team in was Shaun Lawer and Mick Booth. Well done fellas. Second was Maria Rosewood and Paul Woods, closely followed by Glen Barnett and Craig Busby.
Thanks to our BBQ cooks John Tennant and Sinclair Black, sorry about the late notice. Special thanks to our race sponsors Colour works and Village Sports.
We still have transition mats to hand out to members. So make sure you see one of the committee members following the next race to grab your mat.
The end of the year is upon us. It’s been an awesome first half of the season. On behalf of the committee, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and New year. On that note, Bob Aspden, you organised a fantastic Christmas party - haven't laughed so much in a long time.
As most member are aware club champs next year are in Orange, very few people have expressed interest in attending so far.
