Success Story

Marlon Jacques (CTP Cohort 6): Marlon recently received a bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Computing from Brooklyn College. He has loved learning and using the latest technologies ever since he received his first computer and Gameboy. And he continues to use technology to create large-scale applications and functions. In his downtime, the latest anime gets Marlon going, bringing inspiration to his projects. He joined the enterprise engineering team at Facebook in March, where he'll be working on system operations and performing hardware analysis. Marlon is passionate about bringing his story to others like himself, who never had such opportunities growing up.

“CUNY Tech Prep stepped in to help make my vision a reality. The program cemented my path toward entering the tech industry and gave me the confidence to showcase my skill set. I learned a lot of important aspects of software development, such React, Express, and how to use API for any application I envisioned. CTP showed me how valuable communication and teamwork are in getting projects done within tight deadlines. The coaching prepared me for the interview process and humanized the experience as much as possible. I learned to see job interviews as more of a casual conversation rather than a stressful test for employment. I can't thank this program enough for helping to create a better version of myself. Having lived in poverty, landing a role at one of the largest companies in the world felt like something out of the movies. But it's my reality and I'm proud to have taken this path because it's a win for my family and for everyone else reading my story.”
