From University to the Care sector

Since graduating from Winchester University in 2019 with a BA Ed , I chose to take a career in the care sector working for the Platinum Care Solutions Group, where I began my role as Care Coordinator for the Hampshire Branch, based in a pretty village of Portchester.

When I started my role, I knew very little about the industry, apart from the negative stigma surrounding the care sector aired daily by the media. The care sector for so long has been considered as the unqualified sector and largely undervalued.

However, little did I know that the industry is very much the opposite. It has bought me so many lessons and challenges, that although I have left University, every single day I am developing and learning, both professionally and on a personal level. I witness true acts of kindness and joy bought about by the often-difficult work of the carers and their managers.
When embarking on my new role I was willing to learn and develop my knowledge base and adapt my skills to take on the role in a professional manner and give it my all. With my eventual aim of helping to decrease the stigma surrounding the care industry and changing the perception. As a graduate  in the care sector  it is proving to be an evolving industry and I am witnessing the changes in innovation and technology bringing about a complete revamp on the way care is delivered, this is an exciting and valuable time to be part of this movement.

Whilst carrying out my role I have taken on many challenges in sales, marketing and business administration. I have been at the very start of people’s careers in care and it’s a privilege and an honor to watch them develop and grow in their own right.

I currently manage the temporary recruitment and placement of over 100 Care and nursing homes across the regions of Hampshire, West Sussex, and Surrey and look after over 100 staff members across the business.

During Covid, it has been difficult to keep up with the constant changes, however what has surprised me is how quickly the business can turn on a sixpence and diversify to maintain great care and support for all involved in the business.

Moving from education into Care was quite a change for me, however I am really enjoying my time learning and developing my skills at the  Platinum Care Solutions Group and I am excited for the future years with the company, as it is so wonderful to work for a company that values you and your aspirations and goals.

Some of the things I have loved are,  putting a smile on the faces of those in need of our care, making a difference to those in need of care by improving their quality of life through the best level of care possible, resulting in making individuals’ lives better.
"Knowing I can help and be of benefit to an individual in need, is an incredibly rewarding feeling."

This is where I can use my degree to my advantage by educating individuals that the care sector should be at the center of our hearts and thoughts as it is an essential service that each of us in time may need to use, either for ourselves or our loved ones, and that the staff responsible for providing this care do require substantial training and should be given the opportunity to upskill as often as possible, for self-improvement and personal development which leads to better performance in the role.

I have only begun on this journey at Platinum Care Solutions Group and this is just the start.

I cannot wait to see what is in the pipeline for me and where I will end up within the business. I love my job and I love that I am part of the care industry and I cannot thank Platinum Care Solutions Group enough for giving me the opportunity and believing in me when I came from the outside sector!
