It happens every Autumn. One morning I awake and I am miraculously primed and anticipating the feel of Fall. I am ready for the leaves to change color and eventually drop, the temperatures to fall, the earth to smell the damp and musty.
I don't mind the shorter days, more time to knit, a hot toddy and a fire in the wood stove. The changing seasons are invigorating and also a reminder of life's phases. For many of us, Autumn signals slow down, reflection and appreciation.
We are delighted with our new 'parklette' in front of the shop. The city installed these sitting areas two weeks ago and we have already used it quite a bit - a great place to gather and knit safely. Thank you, City of Anacortes, for setting up a parklette so close to our shop. And a request: if anyone has a small metal outdoor furniture set they would like to donate to our parklette, please let us know.
Finally, last month we sold out of the Seafarer's Shawl kit, designed to celebrate our 5th anniversary. More kits are available now. Please click hereif you would like to see these new kits.
We wish everyone time to be creative, time to learn, time to be outside and time to be together safely.
Take good care and Happy October!
This month we are introducing our weekly series of five Golden Gifts. This is the first of five emails you will receive from us, one each week. We have carefully chosen these projects as great gift ideas for the holidays or for any time. Each is priced at less than $30.
We hope you will find at least one Golden Gift to make for yourself or as a gift for someone you love. You could also give a kit to a knitter to make for themselves!
Our first Golden Gift is the Copycat Cowl by Verna Glass and next week we will feature our Kashmir Cowl by Emily McNeil, which many of you are waiting for.
Copycat Cowl -Designed by Verna Glass
This cowl features straightforward knits and purls with some simple increases to add a gentle flair to the base, which sits beautifully around the neck and shoulders, and encourages graceful color pooling.
Our kit includes 1 skein of our Merino Superwash yarn and the pattern and is priced from $21.50 to $23.50. Thank you to Verna for designing this great and easy one-skein project and allowing us to use this pattern. As always, supplies are limited so please click here to order yours today.
On My Needles with Lori Maul
I finished my pale yellow jacket in linen stitch, which I will be wearing when it gets cooler, and will soon be test knitting a new pattern designed by Fran. She is ready with the pattern but THE dyer has not yet dyed the yarn of her dreams...that would be me.
I can't bear to have idle hands in the evenings so I went to where I store my few unfinished projects and chose this one. This is a cardigan I began several years ago with our Winter Silk,
Merino DK, and Mohair Lace. It is yummy to touch and will be warm and wonderful to wear. I am very pleased with the color combination as I begin the sleeves. I hope to finish this project before beginning the next although I am dyeing yarn tomorrow and dying to start Fran's new pattern. Just like a knitter, wanting to start the next project before finishing the last...and sometimes I do!
Are you a Raveler?
If so, come join our Fidalgo Artisan Yarn Lovers group!
The group is growing as the shop continues to grow...we appreciate your support and showing us your wonderful projects!
