Warm summer sun...I love it. This last month has been very busy as I dye for new kits, dye yarns for Emily to prepare for the shelves and help customers at the shop. The shop 'held it's own' last month and I am grateful. Thank you, dear customers.
Handwoven magazine recently published an article by Liz Moncrief, Silk from the Sea, featuring our Marine Silk Lace yarn. Liz writes, "I’ve been working with a new-to-me yarn, Marine Silk Lace, for the past couple of years. Merino wool and silk have, of course, been used for a very long time, but there’s a surprise fiber in this yarn—seaweed."
We have had surge of online sales since the article was published. It is so much fun to see the color combinations weavers are choosing. I hope to receive photos, too! This yarn is available in a fingering weight versionand has also been very popular. The Marine Silk Lace yarn will also be featured in the upcoming Nomadic Knits magazine.
This month's kit is 4-Ever in Blue Jeans. Our friend, Julia, knit this several months ago and we all fell in love with the pattern. The designer, Cally Monster, wanted a shawl that was 'funky and colorful' and to 'throw on'. This pattern is beautiful and very versatile...and can be elegant too!
This month we reduced the price of our 50gm skeins of 50/50 Blend (50% Alpaca | 50% Wool, 50gm=110yds) to $7.50 (in shop only).
We hope you are well, enjoying the lazy days of summer and your hand-work as much as we are. As always, best wishes to you and yours. Stay well and knit often. -Lori

On My Needles with Janet Schlaifer
In early March, I was happily knitting three or four different projects at once. Projects for Travel, TV, Groups and my random "Oh My I have to have that!" project. And then, my world came to a halt. Covid19 meant no gatherings, shops were closing, floors were needing repair, and my jobs disappeared or went on ZOOM overnight. All I wanted was comfort knitting and to support our local yarn shops any way I was able. I bought yarn for Andrea Mowry’s Weekender Sweater and became a one-project-girl.
The pattern calls for 10 inches ease, which I felt might be too much. I knit up a swatch, went down a needle size and down one pattern size. Our shop Guru, Fran, frequently reminds us that the pattern designer doesn’t know what we want so I felt confident revising the pattern for me. The pattern is simple to follow, with a few adventures in learning along the way. German Twisted cast on ??? The garment is designed in reverse stockinette, knit in the round with a false seam front and back. I had reached the sleeves, so the end was near! Lori had been busy dyeing some lovely Medleys so I was eager to FINISH MY SWEATER!
I admit my housework and cooking are on the back burner as I peacefully knit the days away. Gratefully, husband Mark is busy making bowls in the barn and hasn't noticed…
Happy knitting everyone!
