It feels like it has been a very long time since the shop has been open. We've been hosting two Zoom meetings for our regular groups each week where we can at least see each other and share our projects and ask questions. Although we are not together, it has been satisfying to see our faces, hear our laughter and continue to share what is happening in each other's lives.
I have been busy fulfilling online orders and sending photos to customers who want a certain yarn not available online. It is quiet in the shop but also nice to be alone among my yarns and the shop that I have built with my hands, head, heart and soul.
We've had a setback that has been very difficult to navigate these past weeks. The floor in the shop needs to be replaced from the ground up. It has been a sad and highly frustrating experience for me piled on top of my worry and fear of the future with the pandemic afoot. I have had lots of support from my wonderful husband, colleagues, friends and customers which has helped immensely. We will likely be at the end of of construction when we are allowed to reopen. The good news in all of this is that we can begin on Monday...finally. Keep your fingers crossed!
In the mean time, let's knit, enjoy the warmth of the sun, walk in our newly reopened parks and continue to be safe and aware as Spring continues to unfold.
As always, my very best wishes to you and your loved ones,
Our latest Grab n'Go Kit -Designed by Tin Can Knits
A lovely name for a beautiful sweater, Love Note is a sweet little knit with top down construction. The combination of our Mohair Lace and Fidalgo Fingering creates a fabric that is floaty, soft and sensual. With a high-low hemline and two length options, what’s not to love?
In our sample, we decided to make the garment quite a bit longer in both the body and sleeves than what is pictured here. There is enough yarn (almost 1000 yards) to do both in the kit for sizes S-L. The kit is priced at $89.00.
Also note that this sweater has a great deal of ease so the sizing runs very generous. If you should need more yarn for your size, please give us a call. To find out more information and purchase the kit, please click here.
THE LOCKDOWN BLUES
As we continue to shelter in place, we thought everyone might enjoy knitting with the color of the year (or some sort of blue during our 'lockdown'!)
Our shop has had a love affair with the linen stitch these last several years. Emily started it and seems to always have a current project using that stitch. I have made several garments using linen stitch and now am working on a ponchetta with my own hand-spun yarn. I first started this project using a crochet stitch. I took that out then cast on and then took that out. I started it again and am happy with it ..."third time is the charm" often applies to my process.
I am using five or six different skeins of hand spun in this project. There is something very special about using yarn that you have spun yourself. When at the wheel, I am using the two blends of spinning fibers we offer in the shop and often plying with a Mohair Lace. I look forward to wearing my garment this fall.
