We are very happy, just like everyone else, to see the calendar turn to 2021. With our recent windy weather, Janet said, “The windy days are simply here to blow away last year! Onward we go!“
The shop has been much quieter than in years past and that is not surprising. We are stable and I think that is the best news I could hope for. Thank you to all of our customers, old and new, who supported the shop in 2020 and at times, simply stopped by to check on us. We are still here because of you.
Some good things happened in 2020: The shop was honored with articles about our Marine Silk Lace yarn in both Handwoven Magazine and made the front cover in Nomadic Knits Magazine. In December, we were also featured in the Seattle Times, along with several other Anacortes shops. AND our online shop finally took off after three years of trying. I am sure there are other things but these rise to the top right now.
So yes, onward we go. We plan to continue growing our online business and plan to feature lace weight yarns for knitting, crochet, and weaving. We’ve heard from a number of delighted weavers that they love using our lace-weight yarns in their projects. So that we can experience it ourselves, I am on the lookout for a Gilmore weaving loom. (Interested in selling yours?) I haven’t woven in over 25 years and Fran and Janet want to learn. It will be fun learning and exploring together.
We are exploring several new knitting yarns at the moment. In November, we brought in Harrisville Designs Shetland cones (100% Wool. 900 yards – 8 oz) at $24.00 each. I hope to have all 64 colors by Spring! Emily took a cone home and knit a stunning shawl and we are all sampling it for other projects.
This year we mainly look forward to us being together. YOU are what we miss most during this pandemic. Watch for our Bleak Mid-Winter Online Sale later this month, too.
Here’s to a healthy, safe, and meaningful New Year...and let’s get creative!
As always, my best wishes to you and your loved ones, Lori

When you’re searching for a special piece to add sparkle to your mood as well as your outfit, the Shimmering Seas Cowl is just right. Knit with our beautiful Silk Shimmer yarn, the twisted stitch pattern creates a beautiful complex texture that is fairly easy to knit. This project is quick and an ideal indulgence for you or a special friend.
Our kit includes 1 skein of our Silk Shimmer (63% Silk | 23% Kid Mohair | 10% Nylon | 4% Polyester. Approximately 100g = 330 yards) and the pattern. The cost is $35.50.
And if you would like just the pattern, click here. It is will available on Ravelry sometime soon, too.
On (and off) My Needles with Fran Jepperson
Like many of you, I pay attention to Andrea Mowry’s latest designs. In November she published Honey Moss, an asymmetrical shawl that caught my eye. It starts with honeycomb cables that transition into a horseshoe lace with pattern increases along one side.
So many knitters that I know made her Shift cowlor Night Shift, (including me!) and got to experience her love of i-cord edges. Honey Moss has i-cord along both edges as well as the bind off.
Andrea admits that she likes to wrap up in big fluffy shawls and she designed it with a worsted weight yarn. I’ve been fascinated with our new sport weight merino, Rosario Sport, and wondered how the shawl would look knit up in a lighter weight yarn. Rosario Sport dyes so beautifully that Lori decided to dye it similar to our Radiant DK, for this design. It starts out as a beautiful blue and transitions to a variety of greens. I’m excited to wrap up in this lighter but equally fluffy Honey Moss Shawl and Lori tells me that we will offer this project as a kit soon!
