Dear friends and family,

We wish you a Merry Christmas! We trust you will have a meaningful time remembering the good news of Jesus’ birth and God’s purpose in sending His Son to us. We’ve wrapped up our 3rd semester at New Tribes Bible Institute (NTBI) in Waukesha, WI, and we leave for Florida to celebrate with family for about a week before heading back to NTBI for our last semester, Spring 2017. I must say Florida sounds pretty good right now, as it’s been a bit chilly here in Wisconsin. :-)
This past semester has been full of core doctrinal classes like Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, and 2 Corinthians; as well as very practical classes and electives like Conflict Resolution, Financial Peace, and Family Relationships. We are seeing how God’s design for life and relationships does not come naturally, and things can get messy during this life. But as we’re gaining a better understanding of all that God has already done for us through His Son, and how He intends for us to live out the gospel of grace in our lives, then amidst life’s troubles we can have peace, rest, hope, joy and purpose as we live out our meager years here on earth in service to Him.
So here’s our basic timeline again, with plenty of wiggle room for God to redirect in any way that He chooses:

  • 2 Years at NTBI (we have one semester left)
  • 2 Years at the Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Missouri (starting Fall 2017)
  • Overseas as missionaries with New Tribes Mission (destination still unknown, but almost every field has needs)
Ninjas
Wisconsin Fall
Student Leadership Training in Upper Michigan

On the home front, the kids have continued to do well at the local public school, both academically and socially. We’re super thankful for God’s provision in this area through the teachers and staff at their school. They’ve also enjoyed the community life at NTBI, some karate, some gymnastics, and Awana at Faith Bible Church.

For some of you reading our updates, I know the God and Bible stuff may not make sense or sit well with you. Or even the notion of our going into full time overseas missions work with those who have yet to understand or celebrate the significance of Christ’s birth. I understand and respect this, but I’d also love to chat through it with you if you’d like; just shoot me a note.

Galatians 1:4 summarizes things nicely: "Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live." (NLT)

Here are a few prayer requests:

  • For continued growth and understanding as we finish out classes at NTBI.
  • For God’s direction in the coming months and years as to where geographically and in what capacity He would have us serve.
  • For patience and wisdom in parenting, and a healthy marriage

Thanks so much for your friendship and prayers. We’d love to hear from you too!
Sincerely,
Jonathan & Devon (+5)
