Another in the series of organic materials repositioned in the universe to take on meaning. Black Walnut from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Maple discard from PRS Guitar factory, Oak wine barrel top staves, the beard of a wild turkey …
But something is missing here. When I went to take this picture, I noticed that a piece was gone. I had made a 1/2 pince-nez spectacle with a hand-carved piece of mahogany in the shape of the human heart floating where the lens is supposed to be – as in ‘looking at the world through the eyes of love’
(an alternate title). It was quite a shock to see that particular ingredient missing. An epiphanic moment perhaps. The symbolism is overwhelming … not that I would have noticed had I not gone to take the picture.
The last few months have not been without their challenges. Loss of family, friends, animals, a major surgery, and fires all bring life in its’ glory roaring down the time tunnel like a full bore runaway log jam and I’m dancing on top of the rolling logs.
But as the song says – “We’re still here”! I have been missing those glasses with the human heart suspended in them lately. And I didn’t even know it. I’m going to make another pair – better, clearer, maybe a little more colorful, could be that they will even play music. They will be … ORGASNIC … how’s that for a new word? More like a concept.
The fall is breathing new and wonderful opportunities and adventures for sure!
