The March Navigator

Hi everyone,

Welcome to our March newsletter. As I sit here preparing this edition, the sun is shining from a cloudless sky, the magnolia trees are beginning to burst into life, and it seems that Spring is really here.

Don't forget to turn your clocks forward by one hour on Saturday night!

We are delighted to share with you our Tri-Adventure Youtube Channel with the Snapchat videos we have been capturing at the finish line.  We plan to gather plenty more content, so please subscribe to keep up to date. Over the coming months, I'll be putting together some short videos of helpful tips for Adventure Racers - the first one is already available, and makes the sticking on and removing of the seat post number as easy as anything, so make sure you click on the link below.

Bentley Copse Adventure Race
Bentley Copse continues our SPRING/SUMMER SERIES of 5 events. It's on 9 April and we're back at this excellent venue for a second time. After the rain the last time we were here, we're hoping for a great day, with loads of sunshine. Online entry is already open and entries are looking good (read more...).

Liphook Adventure Race
This is a brand new venue for us, and we're delighted to be based among the Steam Train collection at the Hollycombe Steam Museum (read more...). It's taking place on 7 May,  and it's my Dad's birthday, so let's have a great turnout for him!

Tri-Adventure in the South Downs

A number of our participants have suggested that, in addition to the Surrey Hills, we should consider holding some events on the South Downs. So,we spent a couple of days earlier this month attending a meeting at the South Downs National Park Authority in Midhurst, and reviewing various venues.

We enjoyed two glorious days of warm sunshine, which bodes well for the future. It's a fantastic area, full of beauty as well as some magnificent trails and paths, and we've identified 6-8 venues which would be ideal for our events. I know that I can design some first class courses, and Sunday 24 September is the date I have provisionally allocated to launch our South Downs events, so get it in your diary, and tell your friends, colleagues, and family. I still need to finalise the venue and the route, and details will be on the website as soon as everything is in place.

With the help of one of our regulars, Simon Chapman, I'm also checking out venues and routes in Kent on 1 April, with the intention of running Tri-Adventure events in 3 areas - Surrey Hills, South Downs, and Kent.

Do, please let me have your reactions to these initiatives email me.
New Mugs in demand!

I am pleased to say that the new style mugs are now available to purchase in our online shop.  These new map design mugs are also available to purchase on our event days,as well as in our on-line shop.

Winter Survey Results

Over the winter months, we conducted a number of surveys among people taking part in our events. A summary of the key findings is as follows:
  • Exactly 100 people took part in the Survey.
  • 100% of the respondents said they were highly likely to take part in another T-A event - that's great news!
  • 31% had entered for the first time - this is a feature we see regularly, namely that a significant proportion of entrants in a T-A race are "newbies"
  • The feedback was very positive with a very large number saying they would recommend our events to others.
  • The majority of the respondents were Trail participants.
  • 66% entered our events for the fun element with half saying they like to go as fast as they can!
  • Our Tri-Adventurers have found out about the events thanks to our efforts in Social Media, Emailing and the website.

We will continue to do the same things, as they seem to hit the spot, and we encourage you to continue to spread the word about Tri-Adventure.

RECENT EVENTS UPDATE

Cranleigh Adventure Race - 12 March

We had a reasonable turnout at Cranleigh, and everyone seemed to enjoy the course, despite the intermittent rain and mud. (read more..). The Band Room is a really good location, with plenty of free parking across the road, so we'll be back there again in the future, with a new course to challenge you.

Interested, but no MTB?

No problem!  We’ve teamed up with B1KE, who will deliver good quality Mountain Bikes to the venue for £30.  So, no excuses …   If you need a bike for one of our events, just let me know. CONTACT US.  More information about the hire details can be found here.

Navigation Skills Training
Improve your Navigation skills and start collecting even more Check Points by attending one of my one day Navigation Courses.  As a result of the interest shown in these courses at the recent Triathlon Show, I have allocated the following days for the next few courses:

Sun 2nd April 2017  Shere – Surrey Hills
Sat 29th April  Shere – Surrey Hills
Sun 30th April  Shere – Surrey Hills

I am also happy to run these courses for groups of 1-8, on a day to suit you, so just email me if you are interested. The feedback from those attending is excellent, and the application of the new knowledge is clearly evident the next time they enter an event, as the participants tackle their maps with skill and confidence  CONTACT US.
Here is a quote from Jodie Bance, who attended a Navigation course last year

‘I would strongly recommend the navigation course! As a newcomer, I loved participating in adventure races but was so bad at them, and I had no idea how to improve. The navigation course showed us the basic principles that we can hopefully put into practice to get some more of those check points!!! (and Adam was very patient!!)’
