Syngineering Approaches to Building Agility into Any Organisation -with Rich Thayer.
We are very excited to welcome Rich Thayer, co-author of Syngineering to the next Johannesburg SAODN Corner. This book has been eagerly anticipated by the global OD community for several years. We learned that it was coming from Bill Zybach and Monique Carnino at our first ever Flourish! Conference. Rich, Monique and Bill are all highly experienced organisational design practitioners, who have worked in very large and influential organisations. This is a milestone event and we’d love you to be there to celebrate and be among the first to get a sneak preview into the principles which they are sharing in the book.
SESSION TITLE: Syngineering Approaches to Building Agility into Any Organisation.
SESSION PURPOSE: The session is an introduction to the principles defined in Syngineering, by one of the authors. We will explore the concepts behind the Syngineering approaches to building agility into any organisation, taking into account its business landscape, strategy, and culture.

Dr. Richard Thayer is an organisation design practitioner, author, teacher, and advisor. With his partners he is now publishing a step-by-step guide for introducing agility and responsiveness into any organisation regardless of industry, culture, strategy, or company size.
Richard started his professional life in geophysical research, moved into technical management, and soon found his calling in organisational consulting. He spent ten years as one of the senior consultants on staff with Royal Dutch Shell and worked on setting up or revitalizing a number of their large joint venture mega-projects. More recently he and his business partners have consulted with numerous medium—sized companies in aligning their structures, systems, and cultures with their strategies.
His current work is focused on agility and collaboration. He and his partners have developed a seamless consulting style that brings their blended individual capabilities into a powerful whole. Their book as well as their presentations and workshops reflect this, with lead authorship rotating among them. Their collaboration extends far beyond the three of them and their working network includes many of the leading lights in organisation design consulting today.
Richard spends his ‘spare time’ facilitating an alternatives to violence curriculum in the Maryland Department of Corrections. He coordinates an extended team of facilitators in a new program at the youth detention center.
His recent projects include: * Change engagement for large Asian company’s digital transformation * Leadership transition and restructuring for mid-sized UK company * Agile team development for global environmental non-profit * Culture change in Maryland corrections youth detention facility * Standardized change management approach for a global engineering company
