IAEA Releases Concluding Summary of Conference on Climate Change and Role of Nuclear Power


IAEA Reviews Progress of Ghana's Nuclear Infrastructure Development

Nuclear power has a major role to play in decarbonizing the energy sector to achieve global climate goals but will need enabling policies including a fair allocation of system costs to reach its full potential, the President of the International Conference on Climate Change and the Role of Nuclear Power said in his concluding summary.
  Ghana has made progress in implementing the recommendations of an IAEA Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) mission, said a team of IAEA and international experts. The 2017 review had provided twelve recommendations and eight suggestions to assist Ghana in making further progress in its infrastructure development.    
IAEA Launches Student Competition for Innovative IT Projects Supporting Education in Nuclear Technology   IAEA Concludes Operational and Maintenance Assessment at Research Reactor in Indonesia
The IAEA is organizing an international student competition inviting secondary school students between the ages of 14 and 18 to design and develop an original project on the use of digital technologies to support education in nuclear technology and its role in addressing climate change.
  An IAEA team of experts has concluded an Operational and Maintenance Assessment for Research Reactors (OMARR) mission in Indonesia. Conducted at the request of the Indonesian government, the mission aimed to strengthen operational and maintenance practices at the TRIGA 2000 research reactor.  
IAEA LEU Bank Becomes Operational with Delivery of Low Enriched Uranium
  IAEA Delivers Report on Nuclear Power Infrastructure Development to the Philippines
The IAEA took delivery of a shipment of low enriched uranium (LEU) at a purpose-built facility in Kazakhstan, officially establishing the IAEA LEU Bank aimed at providing assurance to countries about the availability of nuclear fuel. 
  The IAEA has delivered the final report of a mission that reviewed the Philippines' infrastructure development for a nuclear power programme. The report was handed over on 30 October in Manila.
New E-Learning Course on the Management of Spent Fuel from Nuclear Power Reactors
  'Newcomer' Countries Explore Resource Requirements for Developing Nuclear Power Infrastructure
The IAEA has designed an online e-learning course to provide an overview of the different strategies applied worldwide for managing spent fuel. The course is part of the spent fuel and radioactive waste management, decommissioning and environmental remediation curriculum, which includes several other modules.
  Resource requirements are influenced by country specific factors such as political commitment, regulatory approach and partnerships with experienced countries, participants in an IAEA meeting heard.  
Improving Cooperation: IAEA Signs Agreements with Three Organizations   Experts Discuss Design Options for Future Fusion Power Plant
The IAEA is strengthening its cooperation with institutions in Belarus, Russia and Europe in areas ranging from education to economic evaluations of nuclear power.     The design of a future Demonstration Fusion Power Plant was the topic of discussion at an IAEA workshop held in Moscow.
