Google comes to play
This month Kariaka Pa hosted the fifth Tieki Te Taiao wananga.  

A highlight of the wananga was the participation of Google Trekker inventor Steve Silverman. Steve was in New Zealand to for the launch of Google Trekker’s capturing of the Great Walks. Duane Wilkins from the Department of Conservation has been working with Hikurangi Takiwa Trust on GIS mapping and seized in opportunity to invite Steve to join the wananga before heading home to Silicon Valley.
Wananga participants did a lot of GIS mapping including a hikoi ki Pohatukura and Rapid Habitat Assessments in the awa above Kariaka. 
The final wananga - to be hosted by Te Aowera - will be held in the new year - meanwhile Pia Pohatu is busy drafting a State of the Takiwa Environment report.

The last HTT hui for 2015 is this Sunday 29 November, starting 10am at Te Aowera pa.
On the agenda are updates from each pa, project reports from the Hapu Hauora, Economic Development, Matauranga, Hapu Census and Tieki Te Taiao projects. 


Hikurangi Takiwa Trust along with AHI International Ltd and the Nelson Bioactive Extracts Consortium are hosting a workshop for landowners between Te Puia and Ruatorea this Thursday starting 3pm at Kariaka Pa. The workshop will explore a number of opportunities for new land and marine based industries.
