1LoveMalvern (a.k.a Malvern Neighbourhood Action Partnership (MNAP)) is a collaborative of residents, agency members and other stakeholders that strengthens the various communities within Malvern. 1LoveMalvern achieves community transformation by building community capacity, developing innovative initiatives, leveraging new resources and providing opportunities for local residents to receive training, improved access to services, and an increased voice in shaping their community.

With the federal elections just around the corner, don't miss out on tonight's Scarborough Rouge Park debate at Malvern Family Resource Centre! Look through the newsletter for opportunities in employment and training. Among other activities, Scarborough Community Safety Week is also coming up this month and will run from Oct 25 to 31 across Scarborough.

NPower Info Session - Oct 15
Launch your Tech Career in 2016! This new program will offer free Industry-certified IT skills training and 6 to 12 week paid internships. Learn more about the program at the upcoming info session on Oct 15 at 2 PM at The SPOT - 30 Sewells Rd.

Food Security & Resident Engagement News

Free Community Meal 
The 1LoveMalvern Food Security Workgroup in partnership with 5N2 Soup Kitchen and Malvern Presbyterian Church will be hosting another community meal on October 22 from 12 noon to 1:30 PM. A hot meal, along with information services from local service providers is brought together to connect clients to service providers.

Daily Bread Food Bank's Annual Report on Hunger 

Daily Bread has published their annual report on Hunger in Toronto. It reveals that food bank usage has increased in Toronto's inner suburbs by 45% and overall usage of food banks across the city has risen by 12% since 2008. Read through the report here.

Mobile Food Market
FoodShare's mobile food market continues to build clientele in the Malvern area. They are bringing in lots of veggies essential to South Asian and Carribean cooking. Stop by and take a look. They are here every Wednesday at 110 Empringham Drive Basketball Court from 6:15 to 7:45 PM.

The 1LoveMalvern website is being used to streamline all online presence for 1LoveMalvern activities and everything related to MNAP will be shared online under the 1LoveMalvern umbrella.

Please tag 1LoveMalvern Facebook page on any of your online postings and tag @1lovemalvern Twitter on your tweets to promote upcoming events and any community updates as we are trying to reach out to as many people as possible through these platforms.
Self Employment Information Session

Toronto Employment Services in partnership with Enterprise Toronto are hosting an info session on Oct 8 from 2 to 3:30 PM to learn about the steps to take for staring up your own business, and supports available through different resources. The session will be held at 325 Milner Ave, 9th Floor.
Single Parent Employment Resource Fair

At this event you can expect to:

  • Learn about employment and child care resources available for single parents
  • Identify your career directions
  • Opportunity to speak with agency staff and employers

The Fair is on Wednesday Oct 28 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Malvern Employment and Social Services - 325 Milner Ave 9th Floor.

Administrative Resources for Refugees
While refugees and refugee claimants are entitled to healthcare coverage in Ontario, these populations face challenges in accessing the healthcare system. One of the reasons for this is the lack of awareness among providers of the health coverage that is available to refugees and refugee claimants. Settlement at Work has listed some resources on their site for anyone to browse through and get better acquainted with the system.

Scarborough Community Safety Week Oct 25 - 31, 2015

Toronto East Quadrant Local Immigration Partnership is proud to announce its 3rd Annual Scarborough Community Safety Week being held from Sunday, October 25 to Saturday, October 31, 2015 across Scarborough. 

Opening event:
October 25:  Crime Conference2 – 5 pm at Milliken Park Community Recreation Centre - 4325 McCowan Road, Scarborough
The event will offer an understanding of cyber crime trends on the internet and in social media and features a keynote address by 42 Division and a panel of experts.

Women's Place is looking for women-identified individuals who live/work/play in Malvern and who would like to be a part of the Malvern Women's Advisory Network to advocate for women in the following areas: Equal opportunities in Employment and Education, Safety - freedom from harassment and abuse, Accessible childcare, Affordable housing, Accessibility rights for women with disabilities and other issues affecting women.
