Detailed Graduation Precautions

Dear Graduation Attendee,

We want you to know that our priority is the safety of your family. To this end, we have enacted the following precautions to limit the spread of illness. However, no set of precautions can completely eliminate risk. Please share these precautions and instructions with anyone you know who plans to attend Graduation. Family members from out of town may not get this information unless you forward it to them. Thank you for your help!

Stay Home if Sick
First and foremost, do not attend Graduation if you are sick. All attendees must stay home when exhibiting symptoms such as fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, or loss of taste or smell. Anyone with a fever of 100.4 degrees or symptoms should not be present. Graduation will be live streamed. The link will be shared on the school's web page and Facebook page starting July 12.

Travel History
Do not come to Graduation if you have travelled or been exposed to someone travelling to or from certain areas within the last 14 days. The areas in question are constantly updated on the KDHE's travel related isolation/quarantine list.

Social Distancing is Required
The field house entryway is not big enough to host large gatherings. Please limit congregation and conversation in the entryway. Those interactions are better facilitated outside. Please make the most direct path to your seating, whether on the gym floor or in the stands. Your family, and guests staying in the same home, may sit together. However, find a spot at least 6 feet in all directions from any other family unit. There will be seating space on the gym floor if needed. If you need assistance with seating, approach an administrator who can assist you with seating.

Face coverings
We strongly encourage face coverings when entering and exiting the building. Entryways and stairwells will be the most congested. When seated, you are able to remove your face covering as long as you are over 6 feet from other families. If seating is limited and people must be seated closely, wearing face coverings during the ceremony is strongly recommended. Children 2 and under, as well as individuals with breathing or sensory issues, are not expected to wear face coverings at Graduation. After Graduation, make your way outside as promptly as you can and maintain social distancing outside. Face coverings are not as crucial in outdoor areas, especially if 6 feet is maintained between groups.

Hand Sanitizer and Restrooms
Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the field house. Feel free to use it as desired. Restrooms will be limited to 50% capacity with face coverings strongly recommended inside.

Graduates and Platform Dignitaries
Graduates and platform dignitaries will need to wear face coverings during the ceremony. They will be seated apart and temporary AC ventilation will bring in fresh air from the outside directly from above. Even more importantly, students and dignitaries are asked to have face coverings when they arrive, queue for procession, and leave the field house.

The Band and Pop Singers will not be performing live. This is to limit the spread of respiratory droplets that are maximized by yelling, singing, and playing brass and woodwind instruments. Mr. Tom Meagher will perform on an acoustic piano for both the processional and recessional.

Baccalaureate Mass
The Mass will take place at St. Joseph's Church in Hays at noon on July 12. St. Joseph's requirements for attendance are the same for any weekend Mass. Face coverings are welcomed and encouraged. Seating will be limited to Graduates and their parents only. Graduates are to meet in the Kennedy cafeteria by no later than 11:30 a.m.

Project Graduation is Cancelled
We are so very sorry for the loss of this event. We realize that many people invested a lot of time, hard work and money into making Project Graduation possible. However, due to the community spread currently experienced in Hays, Project Graduation is cancelled. Details will follow on the aspects that can continue such as awarding prizes and sharing the class video.

All precautions and events are subject to change with little or no notice. Our prayers are for you. Please pray for us. God Bless and Go Monarchs!

Please contact Mr. Meitner with any questions or concerns.
Thank You
