ISLE OF DOGS

Wes Anderson fans rejoice. An incredible 1097 puppets, 144,000 frames, 670 crew & 20 sets were required to create this epic masterpiece. Wes Anderson returned to our screens with ‘Isle of Dogs’, a dystopian fairytale & ‘non’ stop-motion visual rollercoaster.

We were lucky enough to make it into the exhibition curated by Anderson. Time to up our model making ante.

Park Hill Concept Model

IT WILL NEVER WORK

To celebrate 25 Years of Urban Splash, an exhibition is currently being held at RIBA North in Liverpool, coming to London in September. Annalie was invited to speak on a 'Brutalism' panel as part of the exhibition, outlining lessons from working on Park Hill. We are excited at the prospect of Park Hill Phase Two boosting the reappraisal of (good) Brutalist Architecture.

Mikhail Riches' concept model of Park Hill Phase Two has also been shortlisted for the RA Summer Exhibition.

CRISIS OR OPPORTUNITY?

A great Bank Holiday read this weekend in the Financial Times, an informative article by the esteemed Architect David Chipperfield, talking on the transformation of The Royal Academy and the current state of Architecture in the UK. He refreshingly sees the housing 'crisis' as an 'opportunity', as do we.

Speaking of opportunities last week we joined the All Party Parliamentary Design & Innovation Group. Focusing on how critical, good design is in the creation of homes & communities.

TVC Townhouses for Stanhope by Mikhail Riches

LIGHTS - CAMERA - ACTION

The iconic Television Centre, once the home of the BBC reopened its doors this month after a complete restoration. The infamous 'question mark' floor plan has been reinvented by AHMM to make way for an exciting mix of new restaurants, apartments, creative studios and of course, Soho House. Our site, which forms 20 Townhouses lies to the south of the listed building.

ARCHIBOO

David presented at a conference organised by Archiboo on the key to unlocking the potential of small sites. Or ‘F.L.A.W.S’ (funny, little, awkward, waste, sites) as we like to say. Coinciding with a capital-wide push by mayor of London Sadiq Khan for the development of small sites, David discussed his use of Plotfinder to find Church Walk, how it was financed, and what the challenges were. The Lessons learnt....and still learning will soon be available on video from the Archiboo website. We'll keep you in the loop.

More F.L.A.W.S...as part of Open House London,  Henry visited the smart & stunning Tin House designed by Henning Stummel. Located in Shepherd’s Bush Market, the family home consists of six interconnecting top-lit pavilions nestled within a former breakers yard.
