Generate Presbytery Annual Survey

Generate Annual Survey

Generate Presbytery is asking all congregations to provide yearly feedback on their life and witness. Feedback is being sought from all ministry agents, church councils and congregation members in order to help Generate Presbytery help us to grow as a congregation.
This feedback is being collated by means of an Annual Survey. Please note that this is not the same as the Generate Presbytery Review that we have mentioned previously (refer below section), however information collected via this survey may be used to inform the review.

All 116 Generate congregations are being asked to complete this 9-question survey and we would encourage everyone to take part - thank you!

COVID-19 Update

A reminder for us all

With the current COVID outbreaks interstate, please remind yourself of the current requirements here in SA, summarised below.
Refer also to this recent letter from Synod that relates to this weekend's worship service, as well as our COVID-19 Information Resource Page (recently updated) - note that the specific advice from the current directive is actually slightly different to the (earlier) Synod letter and we are allowed a density of 3 people per 4m2 (Clause (7)(c)(iv) of Part 3, section 8...)

Specifically, for this week's Sunday worship...
  • We can accommodate 304 people and don't need to re-introduce our online booking system at this stage.
  • Masks are encouraged if you feel unable to maintain 1.5m distance between others (and mandatory if we have more than 203 people onsite). We will have a small supply of spares at the front desk however encourage you to bring your own.
  • There will be no congregational singing (even if wearing a mask) - worship will be led by a small worship team this weekend.
  • Children's holiday sessions will continue as normal.
  • Coffee/tea will be served before/after the service and must be consumed whilst sitting down.
We recognise that these restrictions may seem heavy-handed to some, however we encourage everyone to honour these restrictions which will hopefully only be in place for a short time.

8 Years of Harm

2.00pm Sun 18 Jul
Tarntanyangga / Victoria Square, Adelaide

This July it will be 8 years since the Australian Parliament resumed sending asylum seekers off-shore for 'processing'.

Is it OK to detain people who have committed no crime? And do so with no end date? And to do so with brutality? Australia is doing this. Now, today. The ongoing harm is enormous.

Please come and join us in standing against this, and let those detained know they are not forgotten.

Register on this FB event page or chat with Trevor Jones (0414 951 349) who is helping to organise this event.

You can also read Trevor's article on p.10 of the current edition of New Times (also available in print at the church) as well as this article by the Moderator, Bronte Wilson.

One Great Sunday of Sharing

Sun 18 Jul

As Colin mentioned when leading prayers last week, this Sunday is the Uniting Church anniversary (36 years) of being a multicultural church. A 3-min video (see below) has been put together showcasing some of the "vibrant cultural and linguistically diverse congregations and faith communities and intercultural ministries in South Australian Uniting Churches".

Next week (Mon 19 - Sun 25 Jul)

Family News & Updates

Welcome Jordan Parker!

Praise God for the safe arrival of Jordan Samuel Parker, born 8.28pm on Tuesday 13 July (stats: 3.5kg / 50cm). Both David & Erin and Jordan are doing well. Do pray for the family (including Zoe and Kayla) as they adjust to life as a family of 5!

Got kids?

Several of our kids and youth serve in a variety of ways on Sunday mornings, connecting with the wider body and ‘being church’ together. Their gifts are used for the good of the whole and all of us are richer for it!
We’d like to encourage you to ask your kids how they might like to be involved if they’re not already - there are many opportunities - either up-front or behind the scenes, eg. helping with communion, being part of the worship band (incl. singing), helping with the Coro Juniors (from Year 5) or morning tea, assisting the stewards etc.

We’re not looking to fill the roster, but are simply being intentional about being intergenerational :)

Interested? Have a chat with David

Coffee update

A few things coffee-related to let you know about:

A reminder that all proceeds from our coffee goes towards supporting our ministry intern (8 hours per week)
We have some new folk learning the ropes serving coffee in the mornings - please be patient and encourage them as they get up to speed.

We are changing our coffee supplies from Coles to Hark! - a local Adelaide coffee business run by Christians.

The percolator is currently out of order - we are exploring options for this - in the meantime please support our ministry intern and try out the new coffee beans at the same time...! (Those serving morning tea can make you an instant coffee if you would prefer.)

Generate Presbytery Review

Simon recently explained that the eldership was inviting Generate Presbytery to conduct a review into our ministry and staffing. This is not because we are in a difficult space so much as we believe that God is calling the church into something new and we want to ensure that we are best positioned to move our church forward into the future that He has for us.

Here is the letter that the Church Council has written - we encourage you to read it and to chat with Simon or the elders if you have any questions.
(NB. The letter references an 'executive pastor'. See here for some ideas on what this role might involve).

Please note that this is different to the Generate Presbytery Annual Survey mentioned above.

You can read more about the recent Generate Conference 21 on p.28 of the current edition of New Times (also available in print at the church).

Council Minute Taker

Uncle Sam (aka Sam Cheesman) is keen to hear from anyone who is willing to explore the role of Church Council minute-taker.

All willing applicants (and any non-willing...) can email Sam who will happily discuss the role and it’s requirements.

Note that effective from the beginning of 2021, Church Council is meeting quarterly with Elders meeting monthly.
Minutes from our Church Council meetings from Jan 2020 - March 2021 have now been uploaded to the website and can be viewed here.  We apologise for the delay in getting these to you.

Community & Other

The Coromandel Valley Institute

Graham Buxton writes that he has been thinking for some time that it would be great to have some sort of casual drop-in centre for the local community, featuring arts and crafts, coffee, background music, historical interest stuff, that sort of thing.

Read on here if you're interested in this opportunity not only to display – and sell – all sorts of art and crafts but also to offer another form of Christian presence in the community.

The Chosen

If you haven't yet started watching 'The Chosen', can we encourage you to do so? We're watching it on YouTube with our kids and are transfixed...
If you want to find out more, check out this review (from America's leading Catholic magazine), head to thechosen.tv or start watching from episode 1. You can also download the app (which you'll need to continue watching from Season 2).
Connect with us...
Check out this new digital launchpad - a one-stop shop to connect with us online, including subscribing to our e-news (ummm...). Look out for these around the church building and give it a go!
