East Grinstead Hockey Club Junior Section Pre-Season News and Information 2016/2017

Dear Parents,

There are only a few more days to go until the start of our EGHC Junior Section 2016/2017 hockey season, so in preparation, we have included details below for the Junior Club Morning this Sunday, together with term dates and other useful information.

Please note that this Sunday all children need to go directly to the Ashdown Suite before going to the relevant pitch for their training session (the U10s and U12s will be rotating between the water-based pitch and 3G pitch this season, as detailed below).  Please enter the Clubhouse via the main entrance and there will be signs in Reception directing you to the Ashdown Suite. Each child will be given a wristband to show that they are registered.  No child will be allowed on the pitch without a wristband.

We would also like to warn you that the Sports Club is hosting a netball tournament this Sunday so parking will be tight. Please allow yourselves enough time to park and collect your child's wristband from the Ashdown Suite before the start of your child's session.

We have been informed that refreshments will be available to purchase from the netball hut.

Don't forget to follow us throughout the season on our EGHC Juniors twitter account on @EGHCJuniors for the latest updates and news from the Junior Section.

Start of Season and Taster Morning – 4 September
Our 2016/2017 season starts this Sunday 4 September with Junior Club Morning and some fun hockey sessions.
No child will be allowed to play without being registered in advance and having collected their wristband from the Ashdown Suite in the Clubhouse

If you know of any children interested in joining the sessions, please ask them to contact Shelley O’Brien, our Club Membership Secretary ( in advance, as we are unable to accommodate new children turning up unannounced for health and safety reasons.

The Club requires parents of U8s/U6s to stay pitch side for the duration of the training session. For parents of U10s/U12s, we ask that you please stay on site (i.e. pitch side, clubhouse or car park). Should you need to leave the Club/pitch-side, it is your responsibility to nominate another parent to be responsible for your child(ren).

As our numbers continue to grow, we are always on the lookout for people who might be interested in coaching. There is a great atmosphere within our coaching team and many of our current coaches began coaching when their children joined the Club. There is also the opportunity to progress through the coaching levels. The Club recognises the importance of volunteers and assists and supports any volunteer looking to get involved in coaching.
Team Managers
We are hoping that there are some keen, enthusiastic volunteers out there who would like to help the Lead Coaches in the role of Team Manager - no hockey knowledge required! A Team Manager assists with admin work for match days, including collecting match fees and frees up time for the coaches to concentrate on their coaching.
Please let me, or one of the Lead Coaches, know if you are interested in becoming a coach or a Team Manager, or would like any further information on these roles.

Kit and Equipment
Please ensure that your child is wearing suitable clothing, including trainers or astroturf  shoes. During the colder, wetter months, children should also have a rain jacket, tracksuit trousers and wear plenty of layers of clothing.
It is a requirement that all children wear a mouthguard and shin pads. Children will not be allowed on the pitch without these. It is also a good idea for children to bring a water bottle with them.

Club Kit
The STX Club kit is available through Club Orders and the Hockey Centre, who will be at the Club on the morning of 4 September with sample sizes and for people to purchase new kit. The Club kit is also available to purchase online and there is a link here to the online shop.
The Juniors aren’t required to have much in the way of Club kit but the hoodies and match tops have always proven popular.

Mouthguard Fittings
GuardianPro will be coming to the Club on the morning of 4 September from 9am-12pm, to offer a mouthguard fitting service to our Junior and Adult players. A custom fitted mouthguard offers maximum protection and comfort when playing hockey and other sports. Further information about the mouthguards can be found here. We have been informed that there is a 2 week turnaround for the mouthguards.
If you would like to order a mouthguard from GuardianPro,
please choose your mouthguard online and submit your order using the link here. Payment is due on the day, after you have selected the style and colour(s).

Prices are as follows:

£35- single colour
£38- 50/50
£38- two colour stripe
£40 -three colour stripe
£40- Glitter
£45- Match Day Mouthguard

Spare Sticks
We would be very grateful for any donations of old sticks so that children can borrow these at the sessions, so please don’t forget us when your child has grown out of a stick and you are wondering what to do with it! Just bring it along to the next session and give it to one of the coaches.

We are looking forward to welcoming all the children for the start of the new season this Sunday.
Best Wishes
Anna Lewis-Martinez
