Choir News May 2016

Hi everybody and welcome to Autumn. We've hit the ground running this term with a healthy influx of newcomers joining our crew, which is great to see! Now that the term has finished I'd like to officially welcome
to the choir:

Helen Fehlberg
Sue Richardson
Sheryl Mickan
Susan Saunders
Robyn Miller
Julie Murphy
Nicky Tichener

Lisa Lucas
Rachel Dryden
Julie Matthews
Marilyn MacGillivray

Tina Schultz
James Wight

Alain Lioret
Ian Saunders

Great to have you with us! Thank you for your patience as we have assigned music numbers and sorted out our repertoire to accommodate our now 53-strong membership base. Just a reminder also to please contact your section leader if you will be absent on any given week.

Piano Accompanist

We wish Heidi safe travels and fabulous adventures as she gallivants across the world during Term 2 with her sister Kirsty. In her place will be Kimberly Wong, a Year 12 music student from Brighton Secondary School. We look forward to welcoming Kimberly next term.

Over the next 2 terms we will be preparing for "Captured", our concert at the Old Adelaide Gaol. The venue is small (4 x 22m), catering to an intimate audience of approximately 80 people. As a result we will perform the concert over two consecutive nights. We will be supported by guest performer Jonathon Waetford, tenor soloist and choir director of southern ensemble The Fleurieu Singers (formerly 'Singergy').

The program has been finalised and sheet music on its way. You will receive your complete list of repertoire next term, including which pieces are to be memorized. I encourage you to establish regular practice routines. 15 minutes of practice over 6 days is far more effective than 2 hours practice in one sitting.

If you would like to have a preview of the unique space we will be using, a small group of choir members are going to the Old Gaol on Tuesday 3rd May at 1:30pm - you are welcome to join. Please let me know if you will be coming so we know to wait for you.

We are needing a small group of volunteers to help coordinate the concert and organise the logistical matters including promotion, budget, facilities, tickets and other important aspects. The team would most likely meet twice between now and October, and once afterwards to review. If you would like to be involved please let me know.

Just when you thought it was safe..

Santa is baaaack! We have a performance request: Faith Lutheran Church are putting on a 'Christmas in July' lunch on Sat 9th July for the low income tenants they support and other community members. They have requested Vocalize to perform a handful of songs from 12-3pm, including one with a Christmas flavour. If you are available for this gig can you please add your name to the Performance Schedule list which will be available on the admin table next term. Most of our repertoire will be current music and only 1 Christmas song.

Nursing Home Performance
2pm Sun 25th September, venue TBC. (If you have a contact for a new venue who would like us, please let me know.) This performance will serve as a dress rehearsal for the gaol concert.

As always, there's a lot going on to keep us on our toes! With that in mind, have a great holiday break and I'll see you back in May.

Sing on!
