JOB SUMMARY:

The Program Coordinator/Research Assistant will be responsible for the successful administration of all aspects of the Freeman Chair in China Studies, including project organization development, internal and external relations, research, and administrative support.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Program Management – Manages internal coordination with Freeman interns, junior staff, and senior staff, as well as cooperation with other CSIS programs, the external relations department, the President’s office, and the strategic planning team. Plans and executes all Freeman Chair public and private events.

 

  • Program Finances – Manages all program finances including the day-to-day budget of the program, development of all project-related budgets, preparation for internal budget reviews, tracking for and preparation of all allocations materials, and development of a strategy for long term budgetary needs and program growth.

 

  • Research – Serves as a Research Assistant to the Chair. Responsible for assisting Freeman Chair research team in writing concept papers, reports, and research-related business correspondence.

 

  • Administrative Support – Serves as the executive assistant to the Freeman Chair and provides administrative support in the day-to-day operation of the program.

 

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Minimum 1-2 years related business or administrative experience preferred;
  • Must be able to work independently and in teams;
  • Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups, media, governmental entities, and the general public;
  • PC and social media literate, specifically MS Office, and familiarity with web-based research tools;
  • Must have familiarity with and interest in contemporary China.
