Dear St Mary's Community

Tena koutou

Welcome to the 2017 Academic Year.  I am delighted to welcome all students and families of our St Mary’s Community to a new and exciting year ahead.  I trust you have enjoyed the change of routine over the summer break and are looking forward to the year ahead. I am excited by the opportunities and possibilites that lie ahead and to leading the College into a new year.

This initial newsletter is intended to communicate essential information to assist you with a smooth start so we can focus on teaching and learning as soon as possible.  Please read through the newsletter regularly and carefully, and share it with your daughter - it is one of our essential tools of communication with our St Mary's Community. Excellent communication is key to a thriving community so let’s all do our part.

Prayer for the Beginning of the New School Year

Dear Lord, as we begin this new school year,
we gather once again as your community of believers.
We thank you for the energy and the spirit
that you renewed in us through the summer months.
We thank you for the time to enjoy our family and friends and to reflect on what is important in our lives.
Let this year be marked by enthusiasm and love so that,
with the inspiration of your Spirit,
we may continue to grow in our faith.
Help us to fulfill Your hope for us with honest intentions and works of faith.
Let us be gentle with ourselves and bring laughter, joy and love to others.
We ask this in your name.

Amen

THE SCHOOL TIMETABLE & ROTATING LESSONS ON FRIDAYS

School Timetable
The school operates a 10 day timetable with a total of 25 periods being taught each week. As the cycle is 10 days, the first week are Days 1 to 5 and the second week are Days 6 to 10.  This is why Wednesday 8 February, the first teaching day is Day 8.

Rotating Fridays
There are 7 periods allocated on a Friday but only 5 periods taught as 2 classes are rotated off.  Please remind your daughter to check on KAMAR for her Friday timetable.

2017 - change of start time on friday mornings

On Friday mornings the staff will be engaged in Professional Development. Therefore there will not be a Form Time and the first period will start at 8.55am. Students will be informed as to the week this will start.

All students will be expected to arrive at school by 8.40am at the latest. Buses will still be operating at the normal times. There will be teachers supervising the site on morning duty as usual. This will be a perfect time for students to hold interest group meetings.

student vehicles to school & parking permits - 2017

Students wishing to drive cars to school need to complete a "permission to drive to and from school form" and attach a photocopy of their license to it. Both parents and the student will need to sign this form which is available from the Office.

Students who are looking to drive a car to school will need to park on the street.  A parking zone exists around the area and so if you want to park close to the school you will need to apply for a permit from Auckland Transport. Without the permit you could be ticketed.  The online application costs $70 for the year. Auckland Transport have informed us that a letter of support from the College must also be provided with this application form.

We will update you regarding parking permits when updates come from Auckland Transport.
