Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Cinco de Mayo festivities this past week. Included in this day is a celebration of our senior class of 2022. Our wonderful PTSA and Latinx Student Alliance worked so hard to pull this event together, and it was full of joy and excellent vibes. We are also thrilled that so many of our incoming students and families had an opportunity to attend as well. In excellent news from our staff, I am thrilled to say that our own Sam Wilson-Moses has been matched with an approved kidney donor! He expects to go through the surgery later this summer and will spend at least six months recovering. We are so grateful that this life-saving opportunity has been created for Sam.
May is certainly a month filled with joyful ceremonies. We look forward to seeing you involved in any way you choose, from our Continuation on May 26th to our Prom on May 14th, to Graduation on May 20th and even our Field Day event on May 27, 2022. A note for families with 8th graders: After Continuation on May 26th, it is OPTIONAL for 8th graders to return to school for Field Day in the afternoon of May 27th. All academic expectations will be completed by the time they continuate.
Another symbol of the power of the DCIS community is the emergence of our Community Mural Project. Artists Katy Casper, Talia Parsell, and Grow Love Art have partnered with Dr. Susan Marion and over 40 DCIS students to create the mural on the East wall of our school. Expected completion is May 9, and students are encouraged to participate during lunch and after school in this special project. For more information, please read the Community Mural Concept and see photos below:
Thank you to everyone who came out to make our DCIS Cinco de Mayo Community Festival a success! Check out more photos and videos from the event on our Facebook and Instagram.

DCIS Travel Center: Looking for Host Families This July!! Ms. Wickham, Travel Center Coordinator, is working with the American Exchange Project (AEP), the nation’s first-ever domestic exchange program that sends recently graduated High School Seniors on free trips to one of our many partner towns around the US during the summer. The program was created to help bring together our divided country through domestic cross-cultural youth exchanges. This is the first year AEP is coming to Denver, and this summer from July 16 - July 23, a group of young Americans from across the country will be in Denver. I invite you to join us by becoming an AEP Host Family.
Please consider joining AEP by opening your home during this time to one of the traveling students and act as their local family. As part of minimizing burdens on our Host Families, AEP offers a $200 stipend for that week’s transportation and food costs. Please let us know you’re ready to help by signing up via Host Family Signup Page.
Please reach out to Ms. Wickham with any specific questions.
