Doctors For Change (DFC) is proud to partner with Kendra Scott in our fight against human trafficking! From Sunday, April 26th to Monday, April 27th, when you use code GIVEBACK6880 at checkout at kendrascott.com, 20% of the proceeds will go to the Doctors For Change Human Trafficking Committee. The Committee’s mission is to train and equip health care professionals to understand, identify, and provide resources to victims of human trafficking in Houston.

Human trafficking is a modern-day form of slavery where victims are used for sexual exploitation or forced labor through fraud or coercion. It is the fastest growing crime worldwide and the city of Houston is considered one of its hotspots. Of the 40M cases worldwide, an estimated 300K of them reside in the state of Texas. However, less than a fraction of survivors are ever identified. This is why it is crucial that health care professionals are trained to identify and refer victims to appropriate care and rehabilitation services. Now, more than ever, victims of human trafficking are at risk. Isolation is a key tactic of traffickers and social distancing guidelines could make it more difficult for victims to be identified or seek help.

Both Doctors for Change and Kendra Scott are aware of the importance of social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19, which is why our fundraiser will be held online. Even if you are not able to make a purchase, we would like to thank you for taking the time to learn more about human trafficking and its impact on our community!
