Invitation to MKHA Members

Festival of History Workshop

City Discovery Centre’s Lecture Theatre, Bradwell Abbey

Saturday 23rd February 2019 from 2 to 5 pm

Dear Members,

As mentioned at the members’ meeting before Christmas at St Mary’s Church, and several times in our newsletters, MKHA members have been invited to participate in another Festival of History in Campbell Park on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th June 2019. This year it is being co-ordinated by Nöel James from the City Discovery Centre and MKHA is represented on the steering group.

This is an important opportunity for you to publicise your own organisation and for us all to raise the profile of history in the area.

The event will be broadly similar to the last with re-enactors covering all periods of history but it has been recognised that orientation around the site can be improved with better signage, leaflets and stewards.  There are also to be added attractions and extra catering near the area allocated for MKHA members.  Participating MKHA member groups can have stalls inside marquees or outside with tables and display panels but the emphasis will be on family friendly activities which were very popular last time.  Participants will also be encouraged to dress in costume of an appropriate period to enter into the spirit of the event.

MKHA has agreed that all participating groups will be provided with a pop up banner or up to £80 towards exhibition, activity  or costume costs. Previous participants are encouraged to reuse their banners from last time. Additional funding is also being sought for the event.

Finally I would like to stress how much participants enjoyed the event last time – despite the heat.

A draft outline of the Workshop is given below.-  there will be opportunities for brainstorming ideas, gathering further details, asking questions, etc.
