If you’ve never been to the county of Cluj, in the heart of Transylvania, then take it from me that a more peaceful, relaxed and beautiful place on this earth is hard to find. The hospitality of its people, the richness of its culture and the diversity of its landscapes are infectious and it’ll make you want to come back time and time again.
I first visited this place in 1998 when I was just 20 years old as part of a mission trip from Scotland through Blythswood Care. That visit changed the direction of my life and since then, every foreigner I met who has visited says the same thing – this country either gets under your skin or it lodges itself in your heart - and you are powerless to escape.
Almost 20 years later, I have returned to work in Cluj for Blythswood Romania and it is incredible to see the changes not only to the county, but to the work that is being done through our projects. In this first newsletter of 2016, you can read about a very special guest who visited our projects in March or about how one of our beneficiaries is challenging himself in order to raise money for his home, the Daniel Centre.
2016 is a very exciting year for us. We are increasing our fundraising activities in Romania and we have some great plans of how YOU can help make a difference to vulnerable families and individuals in county Cluj. The first is a Swimathon which takes place in the city of Cluj-Napoca on 2 July 2016. In 2015, we raised over 5000 euro through this event and this year, we’d love to smash that total and we need YOUR help. If you are a keen swimmer, or even better a keen fundraiser, please get in touch and we’ll tell you how you can help.
This is just a taster of what is to come. I look forward to not only telling you about new ways in which you can become involved but also about what you have helped us to achieve.
Have a wonderful Spring!
