Freedom of assembly plays a special role in Ukraine. Since independence, the country has seen massive demonstrations and violent suppression by authorities. The Euromaidan protests, which represent the tragic culmination of this recent history, brought a breakthrough in a citizen’s right to assemble freely. The paper analyses the long-lasting gap in legal framework for peaceful assemblies in Ukraine and recent attempts to clarify the constitutional guarantees to assemble freely.

Ukraine 2016: Macroeconomic Stability but Slower Reforms, Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting

Year 2016 in Ukraine became a year of starting on the economic recovery path. Real GDP growth in 2016 is estimated at 1.4%. Most sectors improved their performance. However, the reached progress was rather fragmented. The article highlights the major developments that influenced Ukraine’s economy in 2016, concluding that year 2017 might become a year of change for the better.

Foreign Policy Audit: Index of Relations (2nd edition). Institute of World Policy, Truman Agency

The study evaluates on a quarterly basis dynamics of Ukraine's relations with the EU, USA, Russia, and China. An additional special theme of this release was the situation in energy sector. Aside from a qualitative analysis, the researchers prepared a quantitative analysis, evaluating every decision, meeting, statement on a scale from 0 to 10 with a plus or minus.

The Brussels UkraineLab 2017: Fair of Project Ideas in Support of Reforms in Ukraine
 
Initiated last year, the second Brussels UkraineLab will take place on 22 February 2017 to bring the 19 leading Ukrainian Think Tanks inside the Brussels’ sphere. Not only will the audience be comprised of the most important European think tanks, but we will also bring together representatives from governmental institutions, donors and foundations, academia, consultancies and business associations. To put it simply, the Brussels UkraineLab 2017 will be the place to meet everyone who is working on Ukrainian issues in Brussels, with 96 registered organisations from the EU and beyond. This event will be the opportunity for Ukraine and the EU to have these much-needed discussions about what is the current state of play of the reforms in Ukraine, and what should be done next.
