Seeking to sustain a nutritious diet

This year, food’s impact on nature and dairy’s role in a nutritious, sustainable diet will be topics in talks about a shakeup of the food system globally and a review of dietary guidelines in Australia.

The Australian dairy industry is part of these talks and the Australian Dairy Industry Sustainability Framework is already reimagining what nutritious food for a healthier world will look like in 2030.

The role of dairy foods in a healthy diet is acknowledged in a new guide released by the United Nations ahead of the Food Systems Summit 2021 and in the latest American Dietary Guidelines.
             
In this issue we look at how dairy farmers and manufacturers in Australia are finding new, innovative ways to provide nutritious food within the boundaries of the planet’s ecological limits.

Plant based cartons for fresh milk

A move to make milk cartons from sugar cane and wood is one example of how the Australian dairy value chain is finding ways to package products sustainably.
