Our mission is to provide charitable relief and improve the quality of life
for the impoverished and underprivileged children of Peru and their families.

FALL 2020 EDITION

The world is still dealing with the coronavirus crisis, but Mita’s Foundation has been able to respond to the needs of the underserved and impoverished villagers in Peru despite many challenges. Because of your continued support, we can help keep the children and their families safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. As the fall season begins, we share news of progress and our heartfelt gratitude to donors and volunteers who make it possible to fulfill our mission.

NEW VICE PRESIDENT AND BOARD MEMBER

Mita's Foundation officers and board members have met on September 20, 2020, to discuss ongoing and future projects. Congratulations to longtime board member Terry Rinehart who was elected as the new vice president. César Peña was also voted in as a board member. Pictured below on the left are Board Member César Peña, Vice President Terry Rinehart, President Tina Peña, Treasurer Bill Loyd and Secretary Odilia Peña. Pictured on the Zoom screen are Advisory Board Member Dr. Enrique Villar-Gambetta, President Tina Peña (meeting host), Board Member Raul Peña, Board Member Giannina Peña Escudero and Board Member Dr. Edna Bautista. These volunteer leaders are dedicated in keeping the foundation active, especially during a global pandemic, because the people of Peru need our help more than ever!

CURA-MITA HEALTH CENTER UPDATE

The CURA-MITA health center in Santa Rosa de Quives (SRQ) collaborated with Yangas clinic to provide free flu shots recently. This gave the villagers a chance to protect themselves from possible viruses and maintain their health in an especially risky season. Families are thankful to the volunteer doctors for their service and for your financial contributions for the vaccine and medical supplies.

HOPE FOR A HOME

Mita’s Foundation is preparing to donate two new pre-fab homes as soon as COVID-19 travel restrictions are lifted. Permission from the local government has been granted to build the homes near the school and clinic in SRQ. However, local volunteers are not yet authorized to come into town to start work until it is safe to do so.

One of the pre-fab homes will replace the dilapidated dwelling (pictured below on the left). An elderly man, Jorge V., now lives there alone. As it is located just down the street from the clinic, doctors can check up on him periodically. The other pre-fab home will go to little José (pictured below on the right) who currently lives with five siblings and his grandmother high on a hilltop in a partially roofless building.

Many Peruvian villagers reside in substandard and unsafe conditions and need a properly-built place to live. Several are still hoping for a home. Please consider sponsoring a pre-fab home for $1,000US so a family can have a place to call “home sweet home”. Your name and logo will be printed on a plaque outside of the house. Contact Mita's Foundation to learn more about the pre-fab homes program.

SEE HOW YOUR SUPPORT AND DONATIONS HAVE HELPED
Thanks to your generous support and donations, Mita's Foundation was able to provide additional masks to the police in Lima this past summer. Officers have volunteered to help build pre-fab homes and distribute groceries in the villages. Unfortunately, more than 200 officers have died from COVID-19 because of the lack of real personal protective equipment (PPE) that was promised but not delivered by the government. A grateful police officer expresses his thanks in Spanish to the supporters and donors of Mita's Foundation for the PPE.
PLEASE CLICK HERE TO DONATE
If you are ordering face masks, hand sanitizers, paper products and other essential items from Amazon, please choose Mita's Foundation as your charity of choice. Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible AmazonSmile purchases to Mita's Foundation. It may not sound like a lot, but think about the huge amount of money spent through Amazon and know that everything can add up. All proceeds go toward the underserved, underprivileged and impoverished children and their families in Peru.

THANK YOU • GRACIAS

HAPPY FALL • HAPPY THANKSGIVING
