Forty years ago, on Christmas morning, Charlie Chaplin died in his sleep, surrounded by his loved ones. His Swiss home, the Manoir de Ban, is now a museum: Chaplin's World by Grévin. This festive season is a wonderful time to visit. As a tribute to Chaplin, the estate around his beloved Manoir de Ban has been lit up like a Christmas wonderland. Throughout the school holidays, discount tickets will be available, and young and old can enjoy static flights over the Manoir de Ban in a hot air balloon.
As part of Chaplin's World's holiday activities, an ice sculpture inspired by the Tramp and the Kid by British sculptor John Doubleday (who created the bronze statues of Chaplin in Vevey, Switzerland and London's Leicester Square) was unveiled yesterday at the top of the Jungfrau, one of Europe's highest summits at 13,642 feet. Eugene Chaplin attended the unveiling, along with classes from local schools in Corsier and Interlaken that participated in a Chaplin-inspired art competition. The students looked great decked out in the bowler hats & toothbrush moustaches that accessorized their parkas & snow boots.
