Dr. Peter Dedek Received Fulbright Award

Congratulations are in order. Dr. Peter B. Dedek has been selected as a recipient for a 2016-17 Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant to Chile. The Fulbright Program aims to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries, and it is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. 

Dr. Raphael Travis Publishes Book

Dr. Raphael Travis' book, entitled "The Healing Power of Hip Hop" was recently published.

Dr. Omar Lopez, associate professor in the Department of Occupational, Workforce, and Leadership Studies (OWLS) was selected by the Effective Practice Awards Committee as a recipient of a 2015 OLC Effective Practice Award. His submission, Effective Practice, The Online Graduate Research Forum: An Effective Practice for Extending Students' Discourse to Global Audiences, was one of only nine that was selected through a peer review process.

Dr. Lucia Summers, assistant professor in the School of Criminal Justice, was the keynote speaker at IMPACT annual conference organized by the Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC;, a national organization involving major retail chains, the University of Florida and visiting researchers which aims to develop our knowledge regarding retail crime and inform theory, policy and practice.
Dr. Carrie Boden-McGill, professor in the Department of OWLS, delivered the keynote address for two recent International Institute of Social and Economic Sciences (IISES) Conferences, the IISES Teaching and Education Conference and the IISES International Academic Conference in Florence, Italy. The title of the address was Professors as Adult Learners in the Digital Age and focused on the role of technology in changing the world-a-day world of those in the professoriate. Dr. McGill presented a model of knowledge, skills, abilities, and mind sets that professors can use to nurture success for themselves and their students in the digital age.

PRESENTATION: "Introducing technology to the FM program through industry partnerships and enhanced curricula." Presentation to the Mexican Consul General Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, and participants as part of the "Proyecta 100,000" Project at Texas State University.

Dr. Christine Lynn Norton, associate professor in the School of Social Work, was asked to serve as Texas State University's first Foster Care Liaison Officer to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Following this post, Dr. Norton was invited to serve on the Board of Directors of Education Reach for Texans and traveled to a summit on Foster Care in Higher Education in Portland, Oregon hosted by Gateway to College and Casey Family Programs.

On November 7, 2015 three members from our Arnold Air Society (AAS) “LBJ Squadron” attending the Area Convocation in Louisiana.  Congratulations to our AAS squadron for receiving the TOP GUN squadron award for being the best in Area.

 On November 5, 2015 our Student Organization’s (Arnold Air Society (AAS)) prospects went through rigorous training events in preparation for Initiation.  This included a question-answer period by Lt Col Fehrman and Maj Carter and several other team building challenges. Maj Carter was present during all activities to ensure strict professionalism/appropriateness was adhered to throughout.

On November 6, 2015, Cadets participated in our Field Leadership Exercise at Texas State University’s Freedom Ranch.  Maj Carter was there to oversee the event.  It proved to be a fun teambuilding event and an opportunity to practice basic expeditionary skills.
