Happy May!

We hope you all had a fantastic Bank Holiday Monday. With lockdown restrictions being eased, we are so happy to tell you about our first in person event of the year. Scroll down to find out more about the first ever hyh Firewalk coming this summer.

We're also pleased to share some other fundraising opportunities in this month's newsletter, such as Out Run Homelessness, as well as a new short film telling one of our service user's stories below.

As always, our fundraising team are on hand to answer any questions you may have about our services or getting involved in our activities.

"She's more of my best friend than my support worker!"

Eliza has had a tough few years moving from hostel to hostel. Now, in our latest video, Eliza talks about how her Floating Support Worker, Jane, has helped her look forward to a more positive future with her young son.

Out Run Homelessness this May

With May upon us, our Out Run Homelessness runners are all getting prepared for their virtual marathon challenge. You are invited to join #teamhyh in the fight to end homelessness by running or walking 26.2 miles throughout the month -  and it’s not too late to enter.

Whether you would like to challenge yourself by running the distance solo or would like to team up with your friends and family, we would love to hear from you.

Please visit our website to sign up for your place today and walk away with your very own virtual marathon medal at the end of the month.
Can you help provide our
Homeless Hub with Starter Packs?

Many of our service users move into emergency accommodation without the essentials they need, which is why we provide them with a starter pack to help them settle in and feel more comfortable.
We currently have a shortage of items for these packs and would welcome  donations from our supporters of the items below.

Items need to be new and not secondhand. We currently do not have the capacity to accept duvets or blankets. Please contact Vicki Walsh, Advice and Information Worker, to find out how you can help:

The hyh Firewalk is coming!

We are very excited to share our brand new event, the hyh Firewalk on Thursday 1st July at Stevenage Football Club, kindly sponsored by MCP.

Brave a barefoot walk over burning coals for the ultimate mind-over-matter experience! But don’t worry, as you’ll receive full training and guidance beforehand from UK Firewalking.

This is the perfect chance for friends and family to cheer each other on and take part, whilst raising vital funds for our services across the county.

For more details on how you and your team can take on this challenge and sign up to join us, visit our website here.

LGBTQ+ community experiencing homelessness

The pandemic has meant that many vulnerable young people have been forced to continue living in toxic environments where their sexuality is not accepted. Temporary arrangements such as sofa surfing have been disrupted due to CV-19.

According to a recent report by AKT more than six in 10 LGBTQ young people surveyed said they felt frightened or threatened by their family members before they became homeless, while more than half feared being evicted from the family home if they came out.

Our frontline workers help to find safe and secure accommodation for young people who face discrimination and who are living in fear.

We are so grateful to have the support of so many wonderful people throughout Hertfordshire. Thank you for helping us in our mission to support young people and end youth homelessness.
