FAQ for 4 Day In School

These were questions sent in last week that Mr. Rebh has answered. If you need further explanation or have additional questions, please email Mr. Rebh or call the front office.
  1. What is the school district’s reasoning for returning 4 days instead of all 5? The district felt it would be helpful for virtual students to have a sense of community, so all children will remain virtual on Fridays as of now.

  2. Is the district going to continue this 4 day option in September or will it be a full 5 day schedule? It would be helpful to know now for planning purposes..  These decisions are made by the Board of School Directors.  If you would like to know the answers to these questions, you will need to reach out to them. https://www.pennsburysd.org/SchoolBoard.aspx

  3. Will the school day return to its normal 3:30 dismissal? If no, why?  The school day will run until 3 pm and is based on the same reasoning as when the original decision was made.

  4. Can I keep my child at home to work remotely if there is a spike in cases of COVID-19 at the school? The district would prefer once you commit, that you keep your child in school (unless you are virtual, then you will remain virtual for the remainder of the school year). We realize we need some flexibility and can work with families on a case by case basis. Please communicate with your child’s teachers and front office.

  5. Is it possible to get a chrome book in advance for our child so they orient themselves with a school issued chrome book?  Unfortunately, it is not possible since we are presently making sure our Chromebooks are in working order, charged up, and ready to go.  There is not much difference between Chromebooks. If a student currently doesn’t have a school issued chromebook, will they get assigned one the day they come in? Yes.  Please let your child’s teacher know now and it will be there come 3/29.

  6. Can I send my child in at a later date even though I picked 4 days (after spring break, for example). Yes, but please make both the classroom teacher and Mrs. Lake are aware of this.

  7. Can I pick my child up at lunch to allow them to finish virtual the rest of the day? The district will not allow this. If you choose 4 day in person, your child must remain in school the entire day.

  8. With twice as many students coming in and out of the building, how will drop off and pick up be handled with the carline and also with bussing?  This is going to be a challenge, and we are asking for your patience.  We are anticipating an increase in pick-up and drop-off students.  The process will be exactly the same.  Please understand that we are doing the best we can with the school configuration.  If you are picking up at the end of the day, a clearly visible sign with your last name posted in your driver side window is a huge help. Those who responded in the survey that they will be transporting will be receiving a sign to display during the first week.  Buses will still need to enter where the cars pull in. Please communicate to your child's teacher before 3/29 which mode of transportation your child will be taking home so as to avoid confusion at dismissal.

  9. What supplies are needed for in-person? You can see the link here https://www.pennsburysd.org/SchoolSupplyLists.aspx and the teachers will communicate if there is anything else that is needed.

  10. Can they refill their water bottles at the water fountains?  Our water fountains are shut off, per the health and safety plan.  Please send in enough water for your child each day.

  11. Can students keep their supplies in their desks now?   Yes.  Do they leave their chromebook in school?  The Chromebook needs to go home each day for charging, and in case we need to shut down for some reason.

  12. When can we expect more detailed information about the exact distance/spacing between desks for each classroom and what exactly lunch will look like - location, spacing, etc? Spacing was provided by grade level because the number of students and size of classes are similar.  Lunch will be eaten in classrooms according to the district’s health and safety plan.  Most classes will operate at roughly 3 feet of spacing, per the district’s health and safety plan here  

  13.  Are air purifiers in the cafeteria and each specials room?  Yes 

  14.  Please elaborate on how snack and lunch will work in the classrooms.  Students will be unmasked when eating.  Masks are on all day, unless eating a snack or lunch.  All of this is outlined in the district’s health and safety plan.

  15.  Will there be an adult monitoring lunch in each classroom for the whole period to ensure proper safety rules are being followed, as well as indoor recess?  Yes

  16.  Who makes the decision on where children can eat their lunches. Can the principal decide to utilize outdoor space and the cafeteria?  Great question.  We will try to utilize our outdoor spaces for snack and lunch when feasible.  We are also using open windows for improved ventilation as the weather permits. 

  17.  Outdoor recess: Will this look the same as it is now? Classes have designated areas (will they be larger now to accommodate larger class size)?  It will look similar, separated by class. They will be allowed to use the outdoor play equipment one class a day on a rotating basis.

  18.  Will children be on their chromebooks all day when they are in school?  This is dependent on the teacher’s plans for the day.  Since the Google Meet is still the point of instruction, the students use Chromebooks most days in some fashion.

  19.  If a teacher has to quarantine, will there be available substitutes? If we can get one.  This has been one of our biggest obstacles this year.  If not, what will happen with the classroom (who will monitor children)?  In most cases, we cancel a special or make use of other certified staff members to cover the homeroom. 

  20.  Any news on PSSAs? Will they still be having them?  Yes.  They will be during the month of May for 3-5 grade, beginning on 5/11 for ELA.  More details to come.  PSSA will be all students, so virtual students in grades 3-5 will have to come into the school to take the exam.

  21.  Will there be singing allowed in music and will the children have masks on during this? Yes and Yes.  Students who attend school in person are required to wear masks if they are on school property.

  22.  Will all the bathroom stalls be available?  Stalls, yes.  Urinals and sinks are marked off to allow for 6 feet of distance.  Students are also masked in bathrooms as with all spaces on campus.


 

World Down Syndrome Day


Join us on Monday March 22nd to "Rock Our Socks" for Down Syndrome Day! Please wear mismatched socks and/or blue and yellow to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Day! Please send in 1$ or any donation! The money collected will go to the Bucks County Down Syndrome Interest Group. Also please check your child's Google Classroom on Friday March 19th for a read aloud and information about Down Syndrome! 

If your child is virtual, you can leave the money in an envelope in the school's front vestibule. Just have it marked "Mrs. DeCarlo" or "Spirit Day Collection". Thank you so much!
