Dessert, it's something we can all get behind ...

 


I decided before we even went to the polls that this love note would about food.   No matter how you voted, it's been a topsy turvey week, so hey, let's just make this one about dessert.

Thanksgiving might just be my favorite holiday (except for Christmas ... and maybe Easter, hmmm), because it's all about FOOD.  

Ordering the Thanksgiving dessert has been my choice of late, and there are a lot of fabulous options out there.  First up and available for pick up in NYC or shipping nationwide is the Piecaken shown above - pecan pie on the bottom, pumpkin in the middle and spice cake on top.     A+ for fun, and I'd give it a A-/B+ for taste.

Below are some options, many to be ordered, and a few to make.   Order early - they will sell out.  And I have personally eaten every thing in this newsletter, and consider each sublime, A+.

Little Pie Company
We had Thanksgiving with friends in Napa one year (xxx to WL) and shipped a variety these little pies and they were excellent.   And fun to have a baby slice of sour cream apple walnut AND pumpkin AND southern pecan AND why not Mississippi Mud Pie too, because it comes in the fall sampler pack.

I served this last Thanksgiving to rave reviews.   Note that the recipe linked here left out a half cup of heavy cream that you mix into the creme fraiche topping.   I also doubled the rum .

We have a thing for petit fours in our family, and this old fashioned bakery in Arlington VA makes the BEST.   Local pick up only, sadly,  and be sure to order ahead.  If you're only having one kind of pie, you really do need to add in some petit fours.

Nothing to do with Thanksgiving, but I can't talk about desserts without talking about the most delicious sweet I've ever eaten.  The Incroyable is truly that (and my personal favorite), but try the Magnifique and Merveilleux too.  Throughout France, and now in NYC and Toronto.

If you're asked to bring a classic pumpkin pie, this recipe is a winner.   Years ago my sons and I did a pumpkin dessert cook off.   Everyone disagreed on the winner, but this was everyone's #2 pick.
