Feeling the birthday love ...

Thank you to many of you for the wonderful birthday good wishes!   It's so nice to feel a connection, in these days when we can feel so unconnected.

I actually had a really wonderful birthday - Covid style.  My sweet husband called The Goodstone Inn everyday until a room opened up on my actual birthday.   I felt like Cinderella.   The photo above is the entrance to the pool, with glorious white climbing roses still in full bloom last week.

Just outside of Middleburg, Virginia and a quick hour and ten minutes from Washington DC, the Goodstone Inn has 15 rooms and cottages all with separate outdoor entrances.   While out for a walk, I ran into the charming head gardener, who offered me a tour of their kitchen gardens.   She had just brought in the 43 hens, and was harvesting some microgreens and winter squash for the evening's prix fixe menu.   Of course the food was a highlight for me - some of the best escargots I've ever had, delicious dover sole, followed by breakfast of local country sausage with sage, and scrambled eggs from my new feathered friends.

Getting away for a night did my Covid-isolated-crazy-confused-am i going crazy- soul a world of good.  So did the really great boots that my dog Chester got me for my birthday.   I highly recommend both!   Thank you for reading!

Our cottage was down this pretty lane, next to the sheep field.  The property is 265 acres.
