Here is what I am loving this week ...
I love my garden giving me dahlias dahlias and more dahlias!
The above variety is AC Ben, which I have grown for two years - a stellar performer with beautiful nuanced shades of yellow, peach and coral. The first time I planted dahlias, I think three years ago, I carefully dug up all the tubers before first frost, and stored them away in the attic. Come the following spring, they had all rotted. All that work in the cold dirt - zut alors!
The wise sisterhood of the garden club then informed me that in Virginia, you can just leave the tubers in the ground over winter, and hope for the best. They've reemerged two years going now, thank you ladies!
Last night, I ordered my tubers for next spring from Swan Island dahlias. Another great source is Connell's Dahlias, but their website is under construction, and I like to order early, as Cafe au Lait and other popular varieties sell out. Sorry Connell's, next year...
(I am also loving the Calypso dangle earrings, and am offering an insider 30% off all color ways this week).
All photos are from my garden. Thank you for reading!
