Message from the CEO
Dear all,

January was an exciting month and saw the launch of the redesigned Dry Waste Centre; thanks to this, we are now able to process double the amount of waste compared to earlier!

At ELCITA, we have ushered in 2017 with new plans and ideas to take Electronics City to the next level. While we continue our journey of continuous improvement of roads, drains, security, management of all types of waste, this focus this year is going to be SMART e-city and better traffic management.

We want to improve our pavements to make them more walkable, by replacing large BESCOM/BSNL boxes with SMART equipment. I envision the township glittering with energy efficient LED street lights that adjust brightness dynamically based on street usage. We will certainly collect water usage data to help conserve water. Surveillance cameras covering the township will strengthen our hands in ensuring the safety of employees and manage traffic and parking better.

In addition, we are dreaming of a SMART City Test Bed that can be used by our own companies to pilot their products and services. This could well be the launching pad for their products and services. We have enthusiastic teams from Wipro, IISc, Mapunity, Bosch, VXL, customized technologies, Tejas, TCL and other firms joining hands to realize this vision of an efficient and sustainable city.

We visualize companies and employees in e-city partnering with ELCITA for a SMART world class township. Information will be available at our Command Centre to support the governance team and on mobile, for ELCitizens to plan their daily activity better.

Over the months, we will focus on concrete actions to realize our dreams of a smart and sustainable e-city!

ELCITA Solid Waste Management  Facility just got Smarter!

ELCITA inaugurated a smarter solid waste management facility on 25th January 2017.  The upgraded facility has improved processes to make it a state of the art facility.

In keeping with its mission towards ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’, ELCITA has been exploring ways to showcase Electronics City as a model to emulate in solid waste management. It found a partner in SweepSmart a Netherlands company which has the technological and managerial expertise in setting up a modern facility needed to achieve this objective.

Leading a consortium that includes Waste Wise Management and Consulting Services (WWMNCS) and Mindtree’s IGotGarbage, ELCITA held several rounds of discussions with Sweepsmart to create a blueprint for the waste management facility. The new facility has become a reality after several months of efforts and investments. It is equipped with a conveyor belt that improves the efficiency and effectiveness of waste segregation. We have also implemented new processes such as improved collection scheduling, data recording, and data analysis. The multi-pronged initiative has enhanced the waste management capacity in the township, besides making the process economically viable. It offers companies in Electronics City a responsible waste collection and management service.

ELCITA has been running a SWM facility for the last 3 years in partnership with Waste Wise Management and Consulting Services (WWM&CS) and I Got Garbage (IGG) platform by MindTree. ELCITA has been rolling out sustainable solid waste management processes across Electronics City and hand holding its members as they put waste segregation and other processes in place.

Waste Wise Management & Consulting services (WWM&CS), ELCITA's preferred waste management vendor) provides a free "Responsible Waste Management Assessment" service which can be used by all members to get a feedback on your current waste management practices. Please contact mahalingappa@wwmncs.com.

ELCITA will be launching an annual ‘Responsible Waste Management Awards’ based on the RWM assessment framework. Please send a mail to subhan@elcita.in registering for the same.

Members are requested to use the newly designed posters and stickers on segregation, on your notice boards and dustbins.

e-Citizen

I am a resident of e-city Phase-II and currently, I am working with KPMG. Since 2006, I have been living in Electronics City, Bangalore. I chose to build my house and get settled here with my family because this place has a friendly and safe neighborhood and has all the amenities like schools, hospitals, banks, ATMs etc. in the vicinity. I remember, when we built the house, this area was still in under development, so, a few of us took the initiative of planting saplings around the streets of the layout. Now it feels good to see those saplings grown into fruit-bearing trees.

In this locality, something that keeps me motivated to be proactive in life is when I see some of the senior citizens who diligently rake the dry leaves every Sunday to keep the roadside clean.  It’s a small initiative they have taken up, but their spirit towards that work is really moving.

*e-citizen is a series that portrays different facets of people working in Electronics City.
