Message from the CEO

Dear all,

You may all know about Electronics City's comprehensive solid waste management (SWM) strategy. Over the last few years, SWM at E-city has come a long way with 74 companies signing up with ELCITA for destination bound processing of waste and about 3 tons of waste per day coming to the waste collection centre.

In order to take this effort to the next level, ELCITA is organising a workshop on SWM to understand best practices and share learnings.

Members will get together on 16th February 2016 at Hotel Radha Regent, and interact with government officials, industry experts and solution providers. Invitees include Subodh Yadav, BBMP Special Commissioner, SWM, Muni Raju, Joint Commissioner, Bommanahalli Zone – BBMP, Nalini Shekar, Co-Founder, Hasirudala, and Dr. S.R. Maley, Eco Save Mumbai (an expert who has pioneered and implemented low cost landfill restoration projects.

Please email for more details and registration.

I am also happy to share that Nikad India, a pioneer in financial outsourcing, helped clean the private land on the Perkinn Road to East Phase toll gate. ELCITA has now fenced the area, deployed security guards, and planted saplings to prevent any further littering.

Smart Cities would need smart citizens
Smart Cities are meant to leverage the benefits of technology to simplify, improve and automate routine governance processes to improve the quality of life, as well as optimise resources. A Smart City includes an integrated e-governance system along with infrastructure (transport, parking, traffic management, power, water, safety and security) management and citizens’ services.

Every citizen needs to know that smart cities cannot function effectively and could end in wasted efforts if people are not disciplined and do not follow standard procedures. G Raj Narayan, Founder and MD of Radel Group, explains some of the hurdles in a smart city.

Helmet compulsory for pillion riders
Pillion riders without helmets to be fined.

Dr MA Saleem, Additional Commissioner said, “The pillion should wear more seriously than the rider because the rider has an opportunity to know what is happening on the road but the pillion rider is a helpless victim. It will be Rs. 100 for first offence and Rs. 300 for subsequent offences. But third offence we are going to impound the driver's license.”

He also added, “People should understand that helmets are for their own good and not for the police.. Also, pillions below the age of 12 years are exempted.” It is also to be noted that the pillion helmet rule will be extended to entire Karnataka‬ from Feb 1.

I’m working in a print shop at Electronics City for the last 1.5 years. I commute to work every day from Vivek Nagar which is about 27 kms away, and I feel that the bus connectivity to Electronics City is really good.

I feel good and happy with my job. Ever since I entered the printing industry 4 years ago, it has been an incredible learning experience. I have completed my Diploma in Hotel Management and I worked in the Taj for 6 months. I joined my office as ‘Print Consultant’ and recently I got promoted as ‘Shift Manager’.

My hobbies are reading books and playing sports. I love Electronics City and I see people speaking different languages every day. It’s always a nice feeling to see and meet people from all background and culture.
