We're going to the Moon

The Australian Space Agency has reached an agreement with NASA for a locally-made rover to participate in a mission on the Moon. The mission will harness Australia's skills and expertise in the resources sector, while representing an unprecedented opportunity for local industry.

Space Weather Hub set for Adelaide's Lot Fourteen precinct
The Bureau of Meteorology is set to open a new Space Weather Hub in 2022, right next door to our Agency headquarters.

The new Hub will feature a dedicated Space Weather Forecasting Centre to help Australia better prepare for space weather events, and will house research and customer engagement teams.

Southern Space Symposium is go
The Australian Space Agency is excited to support the Space Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) in delivering its first ever Southern Space Symposium.

Held at the National Press Club in Canberra and virtually online, the event will bring the space industry and government together over 29-30 November to help shape the future agenda for Australian space’s aspirations.

Latest Agency grants closing soon
Time is running out to apply for the fifth round of Moon to Mars Supply Chain Capability Improvement grants!

These grants are part of the Agency's $150m Moon to Mars partnership with NASA, and support Australian businesses to get their products into national and international space supply chains.

Space Bridge funding announced
The SmartSat CRC research consortium has announced the first suite of investments under the UK-Australia Space Bridge framework, with $500,000 of funding awarded across five collaborative research projects.

The investment will be used to explore and advance satellite technologies that will be used for upcoming missions in both the United Kingdom and Australia.

Hitch a lift to space with Skykraft
Canberra-based small satellite company Skykraft has announced Skyride, a program offering simple and economcial rideshare opportunities for Australian payloads.

The company, which operates out of the UNSW Canberra City Campus, plans to make multiple launches per year available under the program, and will offer customers a range of supporting services and capabilities.

Australia at the 2021 International Astronautical Congress
The Agency’s Dubai-based representatives had a productive week at IAC 2021, connecting with the international space community and showcasing Australia's space industry capabilities.

Over 90 exhibitors attended this year's event in the UAE, with a broad variety of space agencies and companies among them.

Our team on the ground shared the unique talents, technologies and programs that Australia contributes to the space sector, as well as discussing opportunities for the future.
Visit to Arnhem Space Centre
Agency Head Enrico Palermo visited the Arnhem Space Centre in the Northern Territory in October, catching up with Equatorial Launch Australia, NASA, and the Gumatj Corporation as they work towards a historic mission launch in mid-2022.

The Arnhem Space Centre will host NASA’s first launch from a commercial site outside of the United States, further building on Australia’s growing industry reputation in the global space sector.

Airbus workshop a big hit at ASDC
Future space professionals had the chance to explore robotics at the Australian Space Discovery Centre in October, as Airbus delivered a Mission to Mars workshop.

Alongside our own Space Communicators, members of the Airbus team discussed advanced technologies that enable the journey to Mars, and introduced participants to the Ariane 5 rocket. Participants then tried their hand at programming small robots for a series of challenges on the workshop table.
