SmartSat CRC PhD scholarship briefing

The SmartSat CRC is holding a briefing this evening about PhD scholarships open to UK applicants under the UK-Australia Space Bridge.

Successful candidates will be enrolled with one of SmartSat's university partners and will work on applied R&D projects which align with their research programs, missions, and/or industry need. SmartSat and its partners have collaborative arrangements with universities from a number of countries to enable co-supervision of doctoral studies by Australian and other universities. This session will be recorded.

Survey on precise positioning capabilities across Australia
Positioning Australia is reaching out to users of precise GNSS positioning data or users of geospatial information in complex settings. They are seeking information to support the development of new positioning standards and protocols which will help meet future standard needs.
To achieve that aim Geoscience Australia is working with FrontierSI, Curtin University and Positioning Insights to understand the current industry practices to help build the new standards for precise positioning. Your feedback will will help improve precise GNSS positioning capabilities and adoption across Australia. 

Myriota partners with Yabby on dam monitoring solution
Myriota has partnered with water management solutions provider, Yabby, to provide dam operators and owners with a revolutionary automatic dam monitoring solution. The solution is built on Myriota’s nanosatellite IoT platform and supports dam owners and operators to identify and manage safety, regulatory and water use issues associated with dams and storages in the mining and agricultural sectors. Saber Astronautics Deploys Flight Software “Space Cockpit”
Saber Astronautics next generation mission control software Space Cockpit™ recently completed security reviews and has been successfully deployed to selected military operators at the US Space Force (USSF). Space Cockpit is a Space Domain Awareness visualization tool offering modern user interfaces and gaming technologies to visualize spacecraft and the environment. Read more.

Australian Technology Competition applications open
The ATC is a national competition, late-stage accelerator and partnerships program, designed to identify and accelerate scaleups with global potential. It is sponsored by the Federal and Victorian governments, Accelerating Commercialisation, the industry growth centres, Australian Space Agency and industry partners. The Australian Space Agency is a proud sponsor of the Space Award.

Payment Times Reporting Scheme has commenced
Are you a large business that may have reporting requirements? The Payment Times Reporting Scheme commenced 1 January 2021. The scheme requires large businesses to report on their payment terms and practices to small business suppliers. The scheme applies to large businesses with an annual income of over $100 million. It will help create faster and fairer payment times for Australia’s 3.5 million small businesses. Find out more about the reporting requirements and how to report here.

Reminder: Consultation on Trailblazer program
The Australian Space Agency is undertaking a consultation process to inform the Trailblazer program, within the Moon to Mars initiative. The Agency is seeking your consideration of:
  • the proposed objectives and outcomes of the program
  • Australia’s exploration vision and potential mission
  • the proposed implementation of the program.
To support the consultation, documents are available on the Trailblazer program consultation hub. You can also watch the information session video to learn more.
Submissions must be made in writing, comments will close on 11:59pm AEST on 2 May 2021.

ISU Asia Pacific Executive Space Course applications open
International Space University (ISU) and SpaceBase have joined forces to launch the first ISU Executive Space Course for the Asia Pacific Region – Online. The program will be held between 17-21 May 2021. It will be hosted from New Zealand and operate on China Standard Time. Participants will learn, during this one-week course, about the breadth and depth of the space sector, from expert lecturers from over 12 countries. Read more and apply.

EOS announces Space Systems Research Awards
EOS is pleased to announce its partnership with the Andy Thomas Space Foundation to launch the EOS Space Systems Research Awards for post-graduate research in advanced satellite engineering and communications topics. Under the program, EOS Space Systems will award three prizes worth up to $10,000 to researchers or doctoral candidates currently enrolled in an Australian university. Special consideration will be given to Indigenous Australians, women, and applicants from rural or regional areas, to build an Australian space sector that best reflects the diversity of our country.
