Space is a priority area under the Australian Government's Modern Manufacturing Initiative, with grant opportunities now open for funding until 22 March 2021.

Manufacturing Translation Stream

This stream helps Australian manufacturers translate high quality research and ideas into commercial outcomes and support businesses to scale-up and become more competitive and resilient. Apply here.

Manufacturing Integration Stream

This stream helps Australian manufacturers to access domestic and international value chains, propelling their goods and services into new markets and fostering Australia’s reputation as a modern manufacturing leader. Apply here.


Reminder: Space Medicine and Life Sciences consult

Due to strong interest from stakeholders, the consultation is now open until 21 March 2021.The consultation will provide an overview of the ambitions and plans of the Australian space industry, and inform a roadmap for SMLS investment, collaboration and growth. Read more.

Reminder: Long-term space sustainability survey

The Australian Space Agency’s survey on Australia's Implementation of the Guidelines for the Long-term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities has been extended until COB Friday 5 March 2021. This survey will guide input for the upcoming Scientific and Technical Subcommittee meeting in April 2021. Read more. 

Agency signs with ISRO

The Australian Space Agency and Indian Space Research Organisation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. It symbolises the importance of the strong collaborative partnership between the Agency and ISRO, which will look to identify new areas of cooperation in space technology, applications, education and outreach. Read more.

Agency signs Space Bridge with UK

Australia and the United Kingdom have strengthened their ties in space. On 23 February 2021, both countries signed the Space Bridge Framework Arrangement that will grow jobs across the industry. The Arrangement enhances cooperation across both countries to grow our space industries. Read more.


UTas signs with Astrogate Labs

The University of Tasmania and Astrogate Labs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on the next generation of hybrid communications in space. Astrogate Labs will host its first optical ground station at the University’s Ceduna Observatory in South Australia. Read more.

SmartSat webinar: 
Introduction to Australian Space Regulation

This webinar is one in a series of educational webinars hosted by SmartSat and presented by industry in support of the Moon to Mars Demonstrator grant program. The aim is to help the developing space industry to understand the significant challenges of putting systems into orbit. Read more.

DefendTex successfully fires new engine

Last week, Australian research consortium led by DefendTex achieved Australia’s first successful test firing of a Rotating Detonation Engine, designed and developed as part of the Cooperative Research Centre Project for Responsive Access to Space. Read more.

Valiant space successfully tests thruster

Valiant Space has successfully begun testing Australia’s first in-space chemical thruster. This marks the beginning of an ongoing test campaign that will see the company develop its high-performance propulsion systems for the small satellite market. Read more.

The 11th Australian Space Forum is on this month, Wednesday 31 March 2021. A huge program has been released, designed to showcase the best of the Australian space sector and encourage collaboration and investment.
