Long-term sustainability of outer space activities

The Australian Space Agency is seeking responses to a survey on Australia's Implementation of the Guidelines for the Long-term Sustainability of Outer Space Activities. This will guide input for the upcoming Scientific and Technical Subcommittee meeting in April 2021 (within the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space). The survey closes on 26 February 2021.

Reminder: Communications roadmap information session

The Australian Space Agency is hosting an information session following the release of the Communications Technologies and Services Roadmap. 
The session will run for approximately one hour, and will include opportunities at the end of the presentation to ask questions to each speaker.

Your input will help inform the development of the Agency’s Space Medicine and Life Sciences Roadmap.

Opportunity to comment on Australian space science plan

The Australian Academy of Science is developing a new strategic plan for Australian space science, informed by expert working groups, surveys, and consultations. The Academy is now providing an opportunity for public comment on the draft plan.
The session will include an opportunity to provide comment and questions to members of the plan's expert working group.

AI4Space workshop calls for papers

AI4Space focuses on the role of AI, particularly computer vision and machine learning, in helping to solve those technical hurdles. The upcoming workshop will highlight the space capabilities that draw from and/or overlap significantly with vision and learning research, outline the unique difficulties presented by space applications to vision and learning, and discuss recent advances towards overcoming those obstacles. A new International Space Centre at The University of Western Australia will combine leading space science, research and teaching capabilities, advance our ability to operate from space and enable the development of innovative technology to enhance and sustain life on Earth and beyond. Read more

Swinburne’s Space Technology and Industry Institute will bring together world-class capabilities in astrophysics, aerospace, aviation, advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence and education.

Congratulations Carley Scott!

Congratulations to Carley Scott, CEO of Equatorial Launch Australia, who last week was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia. Carley was awarded the Medal for service to the space industry, and to the community of the Northern Territory. Read more

ESA tender opens

ESA has released an invitation to tender, which comprises the extension of the existing power plant
and implementation of the civil works required to host the second deep space antenna in New Norcia. Tender information is available to participants with an ESA account. To register, contact ESA. Read more


South Australia to launch its own satellite

The Government of South Australia and South Australian space industry are partnering to send a locally manufactured small satellite to low Earth orbit.

The information gathered by the satellite will help to improve services such as emergency services, the environment, water quality monitoring, mining and bushfire mitigation.

The SmartSat Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) will lead the mission and application prototyping, with Adelaide-based satellite manufacturing company Inovor Technologies designing and building the satellite and South Australian space company Myriota contracted for the Internet of Things (IoT) space services.
