Closing soon - comment period on the proposed areas for the 2017 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release 


Comments on the proposed areas for the 2017 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release can be made until 7 February 2017.


There are 22 areas proposed for inclusion in the 2017 acreage release. A map of the proposed areas and shape files is available online at http://www.petroleum-acreage.gov.au/2016/2017-nominations. The proposed areas are also available on the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science’s consultation website until 7 February 2017.

Please note that any work or forward planning undertaken by companies in relation to the proposed areas prior to the official announcement is done at the commercial risk and cost of individual operators. The proposed areas and associated boundaries are yet to be finalised and remain subject to change.

How can we make it easier for you to use NOPTA and the petroleum-acreage.gov.au websites?


The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science is currently reviewing its websites and conducting surveys to gather data from external users. The purpose is to gain a better understanding of how the department can make its websites easier to use and how you can get the information you need.

This is part of a whole-of-government approach to improve the way the Australian Government interacts online. This also provides you with the opportunity to identify areas for improvement across both websites.

The survey should only take five minutes to complete by following the links below.
