Reading of Megillah by Rabbi Danny Kada Note: again only for those who have pre-booked
Second Reading by Samuel Benosiglio
There is an old custom to donate a half-Shekel to the synagogue each year before Purim. A half-Shekel is nine grams of silver which is £5.75 this year. The custom is for this amount to be donated per person in the family, including children. If one is not in a financial position to donate this amount per family member, one can donate a 50p coin per person. This can be donated any time from the beginning of the month of the Adar until Purim eve.
There is an obligation to give two gifts to two poor people on Purim. A gift is approximately £5-£7 so each adult should donate approximately£10-£14 for this Mitsvah. These gifts must be distributed on Purim itself but you can donate in advance of Purim and your contribution will be distributed on Purim day.
