Formula Student Silverstone 2016

3000 plus Students from over 30 countries competed in this year’s Silverstone round of Formula Student. Many of the 130 teams describe how passionate they were for the design and engineering of their build, all striving for the same goal, to be the fastest, the best business model and the best designed and built car. To achieve the different modules students pulled together as a well oiled team working so close knit one said they felt like "family" .Putting together the knowledge gained over the past years and learning a hell of a lot more on the way.

Rennteam from the University of Stuttgart was this year’s overall Winner of Formula Student 2016 . The team is the first combustion Engine in four years to win over electric engines.

Who did we sponsor?

Cardiff Racing

For the past few years Emkay have been a proud sponsor of Cardiff Racing due to the passion and devotion that has shone through in their contact they have had with us. This year it came as no surprise when they revealed the name of the new car they had designed and built. Following the tradition of past years, CR12 was to be female car called “Nella” after Fenella Pryce the widow of Tom Pryce.

Student Dewi Griffith was inspired by the late Welsh F1 driver Pryce, the only Welsh driver who remains Wales’ only entrant to the premier class of single seater racing. Regarded as a rising star within the sport, the Shadow driver achieved nine top-six finishes in his two-and-a-half year career in the top flight. Not only did they name the car Nella and put the name on the car, Dewi also persuaded the team to get the team helmet designed as close to the original that Pryce wore. Lee Trehearne, Chief Technician at Cardiff racing was able to contact Pryce’s Widow Fenella who now resides in France and she responded to the team with the below message;

“Huge congratulations to all concerned, you must be very proud. I can see my name on the side & feel very privileged & flattered indeed”.

Fenella also went as far as to send the students unseen photos taken of Pryce during his Career. What a great story for Cardiff Racing team to carry with them! Cardiff came 6th out of the UK teams that entered which is a great result as they didn’t complete the Endurance round due to a clutch failure. The team were devastated but are now back to work on the car so they will be ready for the Hungarian and Austrian Formula Student competitions. Emkay wish you luck in the next rounds of Formula Student!

Team Bath Racing

Team Bath did exceptionally well this year coming in at 4th place overall, and 1st UK team. This is an amazing achievement for the students and this is what they had to say;

“It was an incredible weekend at Silverstone and we are so proud to announce that we came 4th overall, out of over a hundred teams, and number one in the UK!! We have learnt so much and cannot wait to get to work on improving our car even further and finding out what we can do in our European events. We would like to thank all of our sponsors, academic supervisors and university technicians for all of their support throughout the year.”

Emkay are proud to be working with successful students with bright futures ahead of them!

Even Bath Racing’s reveal was a first class performance!

And last but not least.

Other teams we sponsored were Brunel Racing of Brunel University who came 50th overall, UB Racing of the University of Birmingham came in 68th overall and, LuMotorsport of Loughborough who were placed 35th overall.
