US HOUSE PASSES BUILD BACK BETTER

THE HILL: House passes giant social policy and climate measure

This morning, the US House passed the $2 trillion reconciliation package that includes the largest portions of President Biden's Build Back Better agenda. This bill is separate from the bipartisan infrastructure bill that President Biden signed into law last week.

The reconciliation package now goes to the Senate where it is likely to be changed. If it ultimately passes, it will be the most significant piece of social & climate policy since the 1950's.

As currently written, the reconciliation bill:
Guarantees Universal Pre-K
Extends Child Tax Credit for one year
Expands Medicaid to include Hearing
Caps Insulin Prices at $35/month
Invests $555 billion in the transition to renewable energy
Establishes 4 weeks of paid leave for all workers
Invests $150 billion to build 1 million new affordable homes
All paid for by raising taxes on the wealthiest corporations and individuals
