Scientific Symposium “The Cold is Getting Hot: From Arctic to Antarctic”
The symposium was organized in Monaco on 24-25.Feb.2022 and gathered together scientist interested in the Arctic and Antarctic research. The new Polar Initiative Memorandum of Understanding was officially signed. The initiative is built on a 4-year program (2022-2025) and gives opportunity to AASCO project to be continue. Read more.
2nd Sergej Zilitinkevich Memorial Award – CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
The call is open starting 14th February till16th May 2022.
The Sergej Zilitinkevich memorial award is an international award that will be delivered annually to a creative scientist who has made breakthroughs in atmospheric sciences or oceanography. 1st Zilitinkevich Memorial Award was given to Prof. Bert Holtslag at the Award Ceremony on 7 December 2021 as a part of ACCC Impact Week in Helsinki, Finland. PEEX and Digital Belt and Road Programmes' collaboration meeting
Online Meeting of the DBAR and PEEX programmes on “Coordinated, comprehensive, long-term in situ component of land-atmosphere measurements for complementing the space borne Earth Observation” took place on 31 March 2022 between colleagues from the International Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) / Digital Belt and Road Programme (DBAR) and the University of Helsinki (UHEL) / Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) (Global Observatory / Pan-Eurasian Experiment (PEEX) Programme). New ICUPE article
Article on “Arctic observations and sustainable development goals – Contributions and examples from ERA-PLANET iCUPE data” published in Environmental Science & Policy. Integrative and Comprehensive Understanding on Polar Environments (iCUPE) is the project coordinated by INAR University of Helsinki. Read the article
Horizon-2020 INTAROS – Final Online Meeting and Results
The final meeting of the Horizon-2020 Integrated Arctic Observation System (Dec 2016 – Feb 2022; ) project took place online on 24th February 2022 with more than 40 persons from the Partners of the INTAROS consortium. Read more.
EGU-2022, Vienna, Austria, 23–27 May 2022
The last two General Assemblies, Sharing Geoscience Online in 2020 and vEGU21: Gather Online, were organized as virtual meetings due to the Covid-related restrictions. In 2022, the EGU aims to provide an on-site experience again for those attending in-person, while at the same time introducing new concepts to include virtual attendees as much as possible. As the Arctic Council has decided to pause all activities, the UArctic Congress 2022 as part of the official chairmanship program has also been paused until further notice. Read more.

ClimEd Training: Developing Learning Courses in Climate Services Considering Needs of Different Users
The Erasmus+ ClimEd project is arranging the 4th training on 30 May – 3 Jun 2022 in Vila-Seca, Tarragona, Spain on Developing Learning Courses in Climate Services. The ClimEd Trainings are focused on training the faculty staff at the ClimEd partner institutions in advanced educational and information-and-communication technologies for building a flexible multi-level integrated practice-based education system in the field of Climate Services, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation. Read more.
Urban Climate and Air Quality Winter School (UCAWS-2022)
The International Online Training School for young scientists “Urban Climate and Air Quality Winter School (UCAWS-2022)” was held on 17-23 January 2022 online with 85 participants from 15 countries. Read more.
Erasmus+ International Mobility – Autumn 2021 – Studying at the University of Helsinki
As part of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility grant funded by the European Commission and in line with the Student exchange agreement between University of Helsinki and the Russian State Hydrometeorological University the BSc student Rostislav Sheynov from the Meteorological Faculty of RSHU has studied during Autumn semester of 2021 at the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) of UHEL. Meeting of the Assembly of UArctic
The 2022 meeting of the Assembly will be held June 1 to 3, 2022 in Portland, Maine, USA.  All member representatives will be contacted directly (by e-mail) during each stage of the meeting preparation process. Read more.
The government provides financial security to Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian students in Norway
The state is lining up for Ukrainian, Russian and Belarusian students in a difficult situation. Those struggling financially because of the war will now be given money to cover the cost of living. Read more.
Svalbard will be a showcase for renewable energy solutions in the Arctic
Longyearbyen and Svalbard are facing a huge energy transition. UNIS, Store Norske and SINTEF have therefore entered into an agreement on strategic cooperation within renewable energy systems adapted to Arctic conditions. The goal is to make Svalbard a showcase for renewable energy solutions in the Arctic.  Read more.
