A NOTE FROM YOUR 4th GRADE SPANISH IMMERSION TEACHER SRA. CARRANZA

Fourth Grade Immersion has been hard at work learning how  all the Latin American countries and Spain celebrate the holidays during the months of December and January. Our celebrations are full of tradition, family, food and fiesta! Traditionally December 24th, December 31st and January 6th are the days of the biggest celebrations.

Did you know that in Dominican Republic holiday lights go up as early as of October 15th? In Honduras employees are paid two salaries during the Holiday season! Families in Uruguay celebrate the holidays with a barbecue! If you want to learn more about our beautiful countries, please visit our Holiday Tree outside our Room 500.

Muchas muchas gracias!

Ano Viejo:
In many Latin American countries from Mexico to Chile people design a doll representing the year that is ending. We call it our Muñeco de Año Viejo. It is made up of old clothes, cardboard or newspapers, and sawdust or straw. It may have powder inside, too!! This doll is burnt on December the 31st at midnight as symbol of moving on to the new year (We will not burn the doll).

Today Mrs. Twyla Ryan made our wish come true! We made our very own Muñeco de Año Viejo! She gathered all that was needed in two days. Students had great fun and were on task at all times. Don Jacinto 2015, as we named him, will wear a scarf with his name and 2015 as that is what he symbolizes, old 2015.

.

Muchas muchas gracias!

A NOTE FROM YOUR GLEN ARDEN SOCIAL WORKER MR. EDEN

Hello Glen Arden Families

Starting in January the students of Glen Arden will be working toward improving class attendance.  At the end of each month the class absences will be tallied up, and the class with the least absences for the entire month will earn a class reward.

If you would like to assist with the rewards or have any ideas please contact the school social worker Zachary Eden at 654-1800 or email Zachary at zachary.eden@bcsemail.org

COUNSELORS CORNER

All of the fourth grade classes have accepted the challenge to do something to "Change the World".  Here are the excited students accepting their $1 as "seed money" to change something in the world that they don't like.  I have heard ideas from several students--So far, I have heard that students have decided to support our troops, Manna Food Bank, ABCCM, Santa Pal, Animal Shelters and more.  Thanks so much for encouraging and supporting our children's efforts to make a difference in the world!
