A Letter from Tim Watson
Dear friends and family of THE WALK,
It’s been a couple weeks since I shared the news with you about our transition in closing as a United Methodist Church congregation and that there is a core group of people that would like to continue as a community of faith, living out the vision and mission of THE WALK. We are committed to having a safe space where everyone is loved and accepted at God’s table. As we shared, we don’t have all the details yet, so that means it’s time to organize and plan our next steps.
Be Alert, Be Present – Get Ready for Something Brand New
As I shared this past Sunday, I felt a gentle nudge reminding me to read Isaiah 43. It was a tough period for God’s people and It seemed all hope was lost. God began reminding them through the prophet that they were God’s people and that God was their way maker. Found in those scriptures were these words:
“This is what God says…Forget about what’s happened; don’t keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I’m about to do something brand-new.
It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?
There it is! I’m making a road through the desert,
rivers in the badlands.”
Maybe that’s the word for us. Let’s put the past behind us, no more old history. In order to experience this new thing God is about to do, we need to be alert and be present because something is about to burst out! Are you ready to be present, I mean – really show up for what’s next, that brand new thing?
Let’s Meet and Plan Next Steps
Let’s meet together this coming Sunday, April 14th at 11:00am, right after the morning service to talk about this new thing, the visioning as well as some decisions that will be needed as we start planning and taking next steps. We will keep this meeting concise and on point and limited to an hour.
In the Meantime, Let’s Pray
Pray for direction and for whether you are feeling called to something new and probably much different. We already know we are called to live intentionally and love radically, but how? Where?
We need to have dialogue about what this “bursting forth” looks like in forming community. Some words and phrases that immediately come to mind are learning, growing, authentic, relational, sense of belonging, having connection, active involvement – a group of imperfect people releasing their gifts and hungry for opportunities to be like Jesus and make a difference.
Join in the conversation. See you Sunday!
