This month's MAGS is all about rescue.

It could be rescuing anything from Grandma's secret Apple pie recipe that has accidentally gone out with the trash to saving refugees from a war-torn location. Maybe even rescuing your job or pride...

As long as it's about rescuing it's in.

Let's hope we can get more people to enter, so no restrictions apart from subject.

Golden Oldie with Dave Seaman
by Trisk

I'm not into the horror genre at all but this game combines it with thriller in such a compelling manner that this game has stayed with me since I played it many years ago. It's a story about two estranged brothers, a mysterious cult, and ends up with a plot that spans the ages. It works well on all fronts - good puzzles, nice graphics, good story - but what it truly excels at is creating a genuinely creepy atmosphere.

I still live in vague hope that the proposed sequel will come out one day, but it seems increasingly unlikely. Don't wait for that though, enjoy the original which is still an extremely good adventure game 12 years after its original release.

'Games no one has rated.' This month: H.
by Calin Leafshade

I was surprised to see this one on the list. Not least because I myself had already played it when it was released last year for Adventure Jam 2016. I remember enjoying it but had forgotten the basic storyline, so (after fiddling with the winsetup to get it to actually show on my screen) I replayed it for this review.

The game starts, as many horror games do, outside an old abandoned house. When you step inside, you are greeted by a sinister apparition of a little girl who is afraid of someone called only "Him". As the game progresses you slowly uncover a story of abuse and tragedy.

There are a number of possible ways to die in this game (well, two on my count) but it's easy to get back to where you were in no time, once you know what to do.

The creepy visuals, by SookieSock are of a stylish dirty black-white-and-red graphic novel style. The screen is split into several sections like some graphic adventures of old, with a box for directions, a box for dialogue and descriptions and a separate box with the main playing screen. It all works well to create a very sexy look.

The writing is solid. Mr Leafshade knows how to tell a good story. My only problem with this side of the game were the randomised responses to unhandled interactions. Most of them were some variation of "Why would I do such a stupid thing?" or "Don't be absurd!" when a simple "hmm, nah, I don' think I need that" would have sufficed.

But considering this game was made in only two weeks, it's an overall impressive and compelling little horror game.
That's all for today. I really want to abolish that list of games no one has rated but I can't do it myself. I'll be back next month with some reviews of games beginning with I, but until then, I need your help getting rid of these Hs:

Harry Potter RPG
Hawk Eye Quandaries
Hell's Satans
HELP! the game
Huxz Adventure Demo Demo
The Hobbit: Rise of the Dragon King

See you next time.
