My gypsy jazz band the Hot Club of Hawthorne is picking up the pace, with 3 gigs a month. This Sunday, it's our 5th annual Valentine's Day all-love-song show! This year it's at Mississippi Pizza Pub, which has great sound, and we have Chuck Masi on bass and some of the crooning. See the event page for details. And this Thursday we'll play as a quintet at Biddy McGraw's, whose dance floor brings out swing dancers, and next Wednesday, our residency at Bar Carlo continues. Facebookers please "subscribe" to our events, and/or sign our mailing list on the Hot Club website. I just put a new MP3 on there -- the show we played outside the Schnitz Concert Hall, with a 7-piece band!
Train River comes out of retirement for two fun events at Lompoc Brewing: Black Out Beer Fest, and the 10th annual Chowder Challenge! See their events page for details.
I've been having a blast playing guitar with Jenny Sizzler (after 8 years of playing keys). I'm also singing more leads. We have new originals and keep to about half originals, half jamband/disco/bluegrass tunes. When we play at the Blue Room it always turns into a dance party!
And I'm having a great time with the two Dead tributes, Grateful Buds and Ramblin' Rose, with whom I play guitar and keys, respectively. So many incredible songs...and the community in Portland is very inspired. With the Buds I sing a lot more.
I'm starting up a "Video of the Month" series on the new video page of my website and soon Facebook. I also plan to publish an "MP3 of the week"! I have a gigantic MP3 vault online, which is only a small fraction of all the media I have...a lifetime of listening.
Aaaand....I'm teaching a lot, including new piano students. I love to share the gift the music (OK, for money!).
Thanks for reading. Hope to see you at a show!
